If you’re anything like me, you’re not a native to Buckhannon and maybe not even West Virginia. This means you also might not be accustomed to the crazy Wesleyan Weather that always gets a bit confusing in the fall. One day it will be sunny and 75 and the next it will be rainy and 50. Not only that, but temperatures tend to flip flop between these two extremes in the middle of the day!
I know I’m not the only one frustrated with this weather, so I’ve compiled a list of helpful tips and tricks to survive these crazy climate changes.
1. Always have an umbrella handy.
There’s no telling when there might be a midday shower—and the last thing you want is to be stuck in the rain. Too many times I’ve had to walk from building to building with my head low (as if that helps) praying I didn’t mess up my hair too bad.
2. Bring a sweatshirt or jacket.
There is a serious difference between the weather going to an 8 a.m. class and a 2 p.m. class. For those chilly mornings, bring a jacket or sweatshirt that you can easily shed when the day begins to heat up. This also helps when your classroom is way colder than the outside world (I’m looking at you, fourth floor of Christopher).
3. Check the weather before you go out.
As often as we are on our phones, this seems like a no-brainer. But I will admit, there have been times where I have left my room thinking it’s far warmer outside than it actually is. Find a weather app that you like best, preferably one that gives you weather by the hour, so you can plan when you need a sweatshirt or umbrella.
There you go, collegiettes! Just a few steps to help alleviate that Wesleyan Weather frustration. And remember, although some days might seem a bit chilly, appreciate this mild weather before the inevitable Wesleyan Winter falls upon us.
