Since it’s Breast Cancer Awareness month, who better to choose as this week’s celebrity than Zeta Tau Alpha’s Philanthropy Chair, Erin Murphy?
Other than raising awareness about breast cancer through ZTA, Erin is also a WVWC Service Scholar, the site leader for the Stockert Youth Center and a member of both the Society for Leadership and Success and the Student Education Association. Needless to say, this girl has a passion for serving.
Following her love for service, Erin is an elementary education major and even plans to graduate early in the fall of 2016.
Although she has not been personally affected by breast cancer in her family, Erin has known people who have struggled with it in the past. She realizes that it is a condition that can take a serious toll and you don’t have to experience it firsthand to notice its impact and prevalence.
Being a member of ZTA gives Erin the chance to give back to these victims and help make a difference by educating others about a disease that affects so many people.
“The most rewarding thing about raising money and awareness for Breast Cancer Education is that I have the opportunity to personally see where all our hard work is going,” Erin said. “Nine out of 10 people are going to have some connection to breast cancer, and it is a nationwide issue that women and their families deal with every day. Our philanthropy means making strides against breast cancer and letting people know they aren’t alone in the fight. It’s so important to provide everyone with the information and education to make the fight easier. The best way to do that is to raise awareness and show support for all who have fought the battle and for those we have lost.”
Be on the lookout for Erin this month as she helps raise awareness with her Zeta sisters through different events on campus. She’ll be the one wearing pink!
