One of my favorite movies of all time is one I can just about quote from beginning to end. It is a movie about an ordinary girl that I could all-to-well relate to being thrown into a life of uncertain terror for a teenage girl — becoming the princess and eventually the queen of the (fictional) country of Genovia. In these two movies, we learn along with Mia (Anne Hathaway) about how we would conduct ourselves if we were going to go from “THIS and THIS” to become “…a princess.”

When times change, we are all uncomfortable at first. We have to grow into our new reality. That’s life — devastation and reform — or less negatively, change and growth.

When you got all checked into your room and everything was moved in, chances are that when you hugged Mom and Dad for the last time and the door closed behind them, you didn’t know what the hell you were going to do next. Articles on the internet and visit days now seemed idealistic of what college would be like. The bottom of your car gave out and now your feet have hit the road like Wilma Flintstone.

Moments like this in life are just beginning with college. Time and time again, you’ll face change and growth. Sometimes those changes will suck and sometimes they’ll be awesome. In the end, it all works together for your best — you’ll grow from both the failure and the successes and become more of who you were born to be.

Sometimes, it’s nice to see what other people learned and learn from their mistakes. Advice is always awesome, so here are 7 things we can take from The Princess Diaries:
– “Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something is more important than fear. The brave may not live forever, but the cautious do not live at all.”
Â
– Trying out a new look can go a long way.
– Unless you’re the Queen, you better be on time.
– You need a friend who will tell you like it is.
– “When walking in a crowd, one is under scrutiny all the time.”
Â
– Date a guy who cares about more than hair gel and yachts. Guys who fix cars, play guitar, and can sing are so much cooler.
– Even though you can think spending time with your grandmother can be boring…She can become your best friend, always in your corner. And she will be incredibly proud of everything you accomplish. Family will always be there, even when life has dealt you a hard card, for support and love.
