Classes are coming to an end and you’re probably about to head home. If you’re anything like me, you brought your whole life with you when you moved in, and you’ve accumulated so much more since then. How are you going to ever get all of this packed up and moved out? Good question. Use these tips and tricks to (hopefully) be successful in moving out without stressing out.
1. Plan how you’re moving everything out early.
Do your best to make as many lists as you can and plan out how you’re getting everything home. You don’t want to be standing there on moving day wondering how you’re going to fit your mini fridge into your car that is already packed full!
2. Keep your clothes on the hangers.
Put them in a trash bag and tie the bag at the top around the hanger. When you get home, all you’ll have to do is hang your clothes back in your closet and remove the bag!
3. Be smart with what you put into each box.
Don’t just throw everything in to get it done and over with. Have a method to how you’re packing. Have a box with clothes that will stay in your room at home, beauty items you’ll keep in your bathroom, or items that will be put into storage. This will make the unpacking process a lot less stressful.
4. Don’t be afraid to throw away or donate items you don’t need.
More than likely, you brought way more than you needed when you moved in and you have acquired much more in the nine months since. You don’t need to keep everything, I promise. Use this opportunity to get rid of a few things that have been cluttering your dorm room and will do nothing but clutter your next room as well.
5. Label every box to make unpacking once you’re home easier.
This one is pretty self-explanatory. Labels are a blessing and you will hate everything when you’re home because, more than likely, you’ll spend 30 minutes looking through every box for your hairbrush that ended up in your box of shoes.
6. De-frost your fridge and make sure it’s clean prior to move out day.
Once again, you don’t want to be standing there on moving day ready to leave when you realize you forgot to defrost your fridge.
7. Don’t wait until the last minute.
Packing up everything that has been your life for the past nine months will not be an easy task. Start early. I repeat, don’t wait until the last minute. Just trust me on this one, I’m trying to help a girl out.
Packing is never fun (unless for some reason it is to you, then you go, Glen Coco) but be smart about it and life will become a lot easier. Don’t stress, school is just about over and summer vacay is right around the corner! Good luck on finals and enjoy your summer, collegiette!
