This week’s Campus Celebrity is none other than Wesleyan senior, Jamie Young! Coming from Teays Valley, W.Va. this communication major is hoping to make the most of his last year on campus—and it sounds like he’s off to a pretty good start!
You may recognize Jamie from his involvement with the West Virginia Wesleyan Department of Theatre and Dance. Not only has Jamie made many appearances both on and off stage, including roles in Pirates of Penzance, Little Shop of Horrors and Urinetown the Musical, he is also an active member of Wesleyan’s theatre honorary, Alpha Psi Omega.
Jamie is also the new Editor-in-Chief of the school newspaper The Pharos (yes, Wesleyan has a newspaper), so make sure to check out their first issue, which is set to be published next month!
In his spare time, Jamie enjoys being part of the Wesleyan Cycling Club, which he says is a great way to see all of the natural beauty Buckhannon has to offer.
If you’re from the Charleston area, you might know of the popular news station WCHS. What does this have to do with Jamie? Well, he had the amazing opportunity over the summer to intern at the station!
“I got to try directing, producing, shooting and editing video, and you could even practice reporting and anchoring if you wanted,” he said. “They let me decide which areas I wanted to focus on, which was really useful since I could decide for myself what I wanted to do within the newsroom.”
He was also able to meet some of WCHS’s most popular anchors that have been on TV for years, and helped produce news content that reached thousands of people on a daily basis. So keep your eyes peeled, Wesleyan; you may be looking at a soon-to-be news anchor!
