This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVWC chapter.
Allow us to introduce our last Campus Celebrity of 2015: our very own Events Correspondent, Jessica Nelson! Coming from Morgantown, W.Va., Jessica isn’t far from home. But that didn’t stop this creative writing major from finding her home at Wesleyan. Even as a sophomore, she has already made her mark on the campus community. But don’t just take it from us; take it from Jessica herself!Â

Q: What activities are you involved in on campus? Â
A: I’m part of the honoraries Alpha Lambda Delta and Sigma Tau Delta (the English honorary). But my most active organizations are Her Campus, Bobcat Entertainment, and next semester I’ll be writing for The Pharos newspaper.
Â
Q: What influenced your decision to come to Wesleyan?Â
A: There were so many influences! One, I had heard great things about the English program. Two, I love the campus, and it’s fairly close to home. But most importantly, I won a scholarship contest and got a full ride to go here. Without that scholarship, I wouldn’t have the pleasure of being a Bobcat.Â

Q: What has been the most rewarding part of your college experience thus far?Â
A: That’s a tough one. There have been so many rewards. I’ve made some of my best friends here at college and have met a variety of great people. If I had to pick one thing, I would say the most rewarding college experience so far was getting the opportunity to study children’s literature in London last July on a Fulbright scholarship. It was my first travel abroad experience and I hope it won’t be my last!
Â
Q: What are you looking most forward to next semester?Â
A: I’m actually most looking forward to working in the library archives next semester. I’ll be working on sorting, cataloging and finding space for the Irene McKinney book collection as part of an internship with the library and English department. I get to sort through her books (over 11,000!) to find the ones she made markings and notes in.
Â
Q: What are you planning to do after graduation?Â
A: After graduation, I’d like to get a job as an editor. How amazing would it be to be paid to read books all day?! But I’d also like to write and publish my own books.
