There’s a new organization on campus helping students aspiring to have a career in physical therapy. The WVWC Pre-PT club became a recognized student organization at the end of the fall semester. This semester the club is hoping to reach out to more students. The club is open to anyone of any major/background, and the only commonality members must have is an interest in physical therapy. The club’s purpose is to help guide students on their journey to their future career.
Not only does the club provide information about the physical therapy profession, but it also provides students with an opportunity to be around others with similar goals. Students in the club will be able to talk to one another about specific paths, graduate schools and undergraduate classes here at Wesleyan. One of the many benefits for members will involve an opportunity to have a file of their own to keep track of their classes, potential graduate schools and other helpful information personalized for each student.
The club has already had one guest speaker, who discussed the admissions process to physical therapy school. It plans to have more guest speakers from different backgrounds of physical therapy to talk to students about different specialties in the field. These speakers will not only be physical therapists, but they will also help with interviewing for grad schools. In addition, previous students will be invited to discuss how to apply. Pre-PT intends to have representatives from graduate schools come and speak to the students and go to graduate school open houses.
Although the Pre-PT club has not been up and running for an extensive amount of time, it is definitely beneficial to students planning on pursuing a degree in physical therapy. Even if you aren’t completely decided on physical therapy as a career, this club is a good place to start to see if it’s you would like to pursue. The first meeting of the semester will be held on Wednesday January 25th, in room 216 of Christopher Hall of Science at 7 PM! Remember all are welcome!
