Everyone needs motivation and there’s nothing wrong with using a little incentive to help you reach your goals. However, there is one thing that should not be used as a reward, and that is style.

When you set out to attain something, no matter what your goal is, style should never be used as reward. One of the most common examples is with weight loss. You deserve to look good and feel good every step of your weight loss journey, not only when you have reached your goal.

The reason is simple; it may take longer than expected for you to reach your goal. This can leave you discouraged and deprived. You need the self-esteem boost style can give you to continue to motivate you.

So the question: why can’t style be a reward? The answer is not as simple as it sounds. When you set a reward for yourself, you are telling yourself that you have to earn that reward. Style is something that never has to be earned and it is something that you should have with you from day one.

When it comes down to it, style is the tool to help you feel as good as you can any day, all the time. When you feel better about yourself, you will have more motivation to stay on track and take care of yourself! Because it is the tool, it should never be the reward. People will see your progress and your radiating fashion sense!

So, when you use style in the right way, the process and the feeling you get becomes the reward. So enjoy your style and your extra sense of confidence!

Stay classy, ladies!

I am adopted from Russia and was raised in West Virginia. I am a double major in English (Writing Concentration) and Musical Theatre. I love art in many different forms be it writing, singing, acting, drawing/painting, or design. I adore fashion and it has helped me become the person that I want to be in life. I am a very open person and love talking to people, so feel free to ask me anything! I am honored to be a part of the Her Campus team and I hope that my writing will bring you a smile. If I'm not in the theater or typing up my version of the great American fashion column, you can always hear me coming from the click of my heels. My advice to all: Stay classy!
