“We must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy.” – Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling
We’ve all taken a look back into the past when we thought we “hated” our parents because we couldn’t go to our friend’s house. Looking back, we weren’t technically going to their house, instead we were sneaking out to go to the hottest party of the year. When we look on how we were acting, whether we decided to blame it on the hormone imbalance or something else, we were being ridiculous.
When we got into a fight with our best friend, our mom was the one to help us use a sensible mind to delete the hateful message you were going to send to them. They’re the ones that when we were hurt, scared or sad, they were equally as hurt, scared, or sad. When we come to them with a question about a decision that could alter our future depending which way you decide to go, they give us the best advice (whether we want to hear it or not). Without a doubt, if you called because you needed something, they would do everything in their power to make it happen.
When I think about what makes a parent special I think back to all the moments when they could have just let me do whatever I wanted and not have cared about when I came home or if I made it to my destination safely. My parents taught me many lessons in life. They taught me how to respect elders, but also how to stand up for myself in a respectful and sensible way.
Coming into my first year of college I used these lessons my parents taught me and it helped me get through some tough times. When I needed to make a decision they were the first ones I called to get advice on the decision I wanted to make.
