It’s that time of year again! It’s the time when we say goodbye to our seniors who embark on their journey into the real world and trade in their final essays, exams and presentations for a diploma. As we watch them in their navy gowns, tossing up their grad hats, we can’t help but admire them for their hard work. As we students still roughing it in our GUR and major classes are in awe of the graduates.

So as a reflection of their time as Western, we asked a few seniors (HC grad girls too!) to recall some of their favorite times. We also would love to give a special shout out to our graduating Her Campus girls as we wish them luck in their next adventure!

What has been your favorite part of Her Campus?

“Being able to support women who want to write about things they want to and feel should be talked about to create a forum for college women. Where we can look to each other for advice, creativity and fun. I loved being a leader on this team. I learned so much about what it’s like to start something new at Western and how for anything to happen you must have trial and errors in order to make something amazing.” – Jessica Fletcher, Communication Studies

“My favorite part about Her Campus has been the opportunity to work with such a dedicated, creative, confident, committed team of marketers and writers.” – Lauren Muller, Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing

What is the greatest thing you have learned either through Her Campus or here at Western?

“Life is a never ending learning process. Always continue to learn and grow.” – Laura Horton, Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing

“The greatest thing I have learned through Her Campus and Western is to know it’s okay to make mistakes. Don’t get so down on yourself when you make a mistake because you always learn from them and they will make you grow into the person you strive to be.” – Jessica Fletcher, Communication Studies

“The greatest thing I have learned at Western? I’m not sure if I can narrow that down to one single thing. However, I do have a quote that a professor once, or maybe more than once, told me that I will always remember, “there’s no free lunch.” – Professor of Economics, Charles Antholt.” – Lauren Muller, Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing

What will you miss most about Western?

“I will miss running into friends on campus and just being part of the college atmosphere!” – Karleen Adams, Political Science

“People, I love Western’s community.” – Laura Horton, Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing

“Without a doubt, I will miss the people I have met here the most. I think I’ll miss being consistently surrounded by such brilliant young minds that have contributed so much not only to my college experience, but also to the way I view the world.” – Leila Frishak, Communication Studies

What has been your favorite part of attending Western?

“I think my favorite part about Western has been living in Bellingham. There’s so much to do outdoors and there are always fun events being put on through WWU!” – Karleen Adams, Political Science

“My favorite thing about Western has been the culture present on campus and in Bellingham in general. I really appreciate the fact that there is no existing greek system in place at WWU, therefore students are able to come to campus without pressure to conform to a certain house. I think that because of the lack of greek systems, students are able to have more opportunity to intermingle with one another without any sort of bias.” – Leila Frishak, Communication Studies

What are your plans for after graduation?

“I am going to chill out for a bit. Not rush into anything so quickly, but after summer is over I will begin to search for jobs in areas of communication, public relations, sales, management and human resources.” – Jessica Fletcher, Communication Studies

“I’m going to take a breather and enjoy my last summer of not being in the real world.” – Laura Horton, Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing

What professors and classes do you recommend?

“Anything with Korry Harvey. His teaching style and incredible wisdom inspired me on a daily basis. I also enjoyed Theater 215, Intro to Stage Makeup. As a makeup artist, this class challenged me to think more artistically than I normally would at work!” – Leila Frishak, Communication Studies

What is your advice to students still on their college journey?

“Perservere. Take advantage of every opportunity. Don’t sweat the small stuff. In the end, all your hard work will be worth it. If you’re not passionate about your major, change it. Embrace every minute of it!” – Lauren Muller, Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing

“Relax! Your social life is just as important as showing up for class. You must succeed in both ares to truly get the full college experience!” – Laura Horton, Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing

“Work hard. Play hard.” – Jessica Fletcher, Communication Studies
