The spring Career Fair has come and passed. All the hours you spent aligning your resume margins and practicing your elevator pitch cumulated into a three-hour time block, and it is finally over. While the interview requests start flowing into your inbox, let’s take a look back into our inner thoughts during one of the most stressful times of career hunting:
1. Crap where is my All-Card to check in… oh here it is.
2. Everyone looks so professional almost like we’re real adults.
3. Wait did I dress up enough… am I overdressed?!
4. Okay deep breath, recruiters are people too. There’s nothing to be stressed out about.
5. There. Are. So. Many. People.
6. Who should I talk to first? That person is looking at me; are they waiting for me to say something to them?!
7. Okay don’t mess up, don’t mess up, don’t mess up.
8. My hands seriously need to stop sweating.
9. I wonder how many elevator pitches these people hear today…
10. Just keep swimming; just keep swimming.
11. Professional picture for LinkedIn… check!
12. Why do I always look so awkward in photos?
13. These companies should pass out hand sanitizer for their giveaways. What are they trying to say about me?
14. Everyone shakes hands differently… am I even doing this right?
15. Is there a BUAD event for hand shaking? I need to go to that.
16. My feet hurt. These fancy shoes suck.
17. Where is that one company that does the stuff that I want to do in my life?
18. There was an app for this?!
19. Is saying, “I really like your company please hire me” acceptable?
20. And done! Success!
Congratulations, you made it through another Career Fair experience! Good luck with the Hunger Games of interviews that lie ahead of you.
