Like me, you may be finding yourself back in your childhood room for the duration of social distancing due to COVID-19. It’s been comforting to be home, and I realize that my house and my room have accumulated many memories over the years. However, I also quickly realized upon my return that my bedroom has accumulated many, many tangible things in addition to memories. These things that used to be useful, comforting, and necessary, I have discovered by way of my soon-to-be college graduate perspective are now quite the opposite.
You, too, probably have a ton of stuff in your room that you’ve been holding onto for far too long. I’m here to tell you that in your abundance of free time you should use some of it to clean all that crap outta there. Trust me, you are never going to look back at those 11th-grade pre-calculus notes– you’ve already passed college calculus! You also don’t need those ribbons from the elementary swim team– everyone got a participation ribbon and it just doesn’t matter to you anymore. All those cheap sunglasses that companies hand out that you didn’t even know you still had? Yep, all that needs to go, too.
Decluttering your room will make you feel so relieved, so renewed, and so much lighter. Take a weight off your shoulders by removing some physical weight from your surroundings! There are so many upsides to taking the time to clean your room, not to mention the fact that you’re itching to get a headstart on finally moving out when all of this is over! So take it from me, it’s time to clean your room.
