An Inside Look at Xavier’s Newest Addition: University Station

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Xavier chapter.

You’ve probably seen it: the sprawling complex of apartments, offices, and future restaurants that makes up University Station. It seems like everyone you know is living there this year, but for non-residents, there’s still an air of mystery about the place. Even residents might be curious about their new digs. Don’t worry, collegiettes, we’re here to give you the scoop.

University Station is currently at max capacity housing 470 people. Most residents are Xavier undergrads, but there are a few grad students and even rumors of UC students who snagged coveted spots.

The residents are divvied up into 178 apartments, ranging from 1 to 4 person units. Although Xavier’s on-campus housing is better than that of most schools, these units are a serious step up from the dorms.  Each apartment comes fully furnished and boasts a sizable kitchen with granite countertops and stainless-steel appliances. Bedrooms each have their own private bathroom and walk-in closet (finally enough room for your entire wardrobe!) Residents and their guests also have access to a 24-hour fitness center, an outdoor pool with tanning chairs, a grill, fire pit, and a private movie theater.

Even though this off-campus life might seem sweet, there are a few issues that residents have run into. Because of the rushed construction of the complex, many apartments have some cosmetic issues. Residents moved in to find construction dust still lingering and paint that didn’t seem to be completely dry. There have already been complaints of broken appliances and doors, and some apartments still aren’t hooked up to working Wi-Fi. Another fun fact about U Station: no elevators. Third floor residents have a bit of a hike up to their rooms.

Residents know all of this about the new complex, and probably still love their new home in spite of its flaws. But they might be wondering about all that empty retail, office, and restaurant space. Who’s moving in?

Well, all of the office space has already been leased to health service offices. TriHealth and CTI Clinical Trial and Consulting Services are calling University Station their new home.

As for the restaurant and retail space, Starbucks and Graeter’s have been announced as future retail tenants, as well as Digital Dock, a computer and electronic repair shop. The Xavier bookstore plans to move to its new location in U station, and will be twice the size of the old bookstore. But that’s all the info we’ve been given as of now. Most Muskies are crossing their fingers that their favorite stores and restaurants will make the move to University Station.
