Logan Hart ’15

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Yale chapter.

Name: Logan Hart

Hometown:
San Francisco, California

College: Saybrook

Year: 2015

Watch out, ladies.  He’s not your average “Cali bro.”  Not to say that he isn’t the dreamy blue-eyed blonde that draws us Midwestern girls like moths to a flame.  If I were a moth, I would be burnt to a crisp, more so than even Silliman’s hand-breaded chicken tenders.  Logan is a freshman on the Yale heavyweight crew team.  Dressed in khakis and a smooth gray t-shirt, he is the picture of casual cool.  We sit down in the corner of Calhoun common room to conduct our interview, or “grill him”as he puts it (another reference to being scorched is unintentional, but perhaps apt as my eyes sweep over the t -shirt that fits him like a shadow).

HC: You are on the crew team, yes?

LH: Yeah, I’m the smallest guy on the heavyweight team.  I’m almost 6’1” and although I’m light, I pull my own weight.

In disbelief, I made him stand back-to-back with me and indeed, he stood a full head taller.  I immediately demanded we return to a seated position–he is much less intimidating when sitting down.

HC: As an athlete, what kind of first impression do you think you give?

LH: Hmm… that’s nothing I’ve really thought about before.  I just try to be myself and whatever happens happens.  I guess I have been called a “bro.”

HC: Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

LH: Well, “Cali bros” wear a lot of tank tops and spend lots of time at the beach and smoke a lot of weed.  That’s just not me.

HC: How would you define yourself then?

LH: I devote most of my time to crew.  I am usually either practicing or with the team.  Most of the guys are really devoted and our coach has very high expectations.

HC: What are your expectations for your time here at Yale?

LH: Well, I’d love to do well In Eastern Sprints, which is our crew division, and of course win IRA’s, our crew National Championships.

HC: What, besides crew, do you do in your free time?

LH: What is free time?

HC: Haha.  Hypothetically.

LH: Well, I love to read.  I am currently reading George Orwell Martin’s Songs of Ice and Fire, part of The Game of Thrones fantasy series.

He sounds like a fantasy, but don’t let Logan Hart steal your heart; unfortunately, his already belongs to another.

HC: Have you ever been in love?

LH: Yes.

…..

HC: Is that all you are going to give me?

LH: It’s love, is there really anything more to say?

Obviously, not.  Although Hart describes himself as a realist, he has given me optimism in mankind.  Or just men.

HC: What do you think sets you apart from the other candidates we might have?

LH:  I don’t know.  I like believe in karma, what comes around goes around.  I try and live my life by that.  Wait, that’s so cliché… Do I have to answer that one?

Like Logan, I try and avoid the cliché, but there is no other means to express this: Logan is one of the more genuine guys I have come across at Yale.  He exudes sincerity, and very rarely have I found myself in the company of a guy I felt so at ease with.  Logan Hart—I know he already has won my vote (and heart).

Jackie is a junior Sociology major at Yale University with a concentration in Gender studies. As a southern California native, she loves the sun, Mexican food, frozen yogurt, freeways and friendly strangers. Jackie plans to test out the rest of her early 20's on the east coast, but knows she will ultimately find herself back in the Los Angeles area. She spent the first half of last summer as a fashion intern near her home north of Los Angeles and the second half studying abroad in Prague. While interning, Jackie renewed her love of the fashion industry culture and affirmed her interest in pursuing fashion publications as a career. She had the time of her life in Prague and traveling throughout Europe where she was referred to as everything from "gypsy woman" to "Pocahontas" for her bohemian tribal style. Her fashion icons are Kate Hudson and Jessica Szohr. At Yale, Jackie pitched for the varsity women's softball team before suffering an elbow injury this year. In her spare time, Jackie enjoys thrift store shopping, running, and gossiping with her mom. Some of her obsessions include Starbucks cinnamon dolce lattes, Free People, Guide Dogs of America, baseball (Go Dodgers!), John Mayer and family.
