Are you staying on campus for Spring Break and looking for something exciting to do? Whether you’re here for athletics or a job, or just to save some travel money, we’ve got a few ideas to keep you busy all two weeks!
Luckily (hopefully) the weather starts to get nicer in March, so this spring break will be a great opportunity to go outdoors! Hiking to East Rock is really relaxing and provides a whole new perspective of New Haven once you get to the top. On a sunny day and with time on your hands, a hike with friends is ideal. Another great place to hang out and be outside is Sleeping Giant Park, which serves as an escape from the city.
If you want a change of scenery, New York City is only an hour and a half away and the train is a quick and easy ride. Go to a fun dinner with your friends and see if there are any good concerts or shows to go to. The shops of Greenwich, CT offer another change of scenery and are a break from the usual shopping spots in New Haven like J.Crew and Urban Outfitters. There are some great lunch spots in Greenwich as well (like Meli Melo) and you can follow up by walking up and down the avenue on a sunny day – another relaxing getaway from New Haven!
Are there any restaurants that you have always wanted to try but couldn’t find time for in a normal week? Without classes or studying for midterms, now is your chance to go to brunch somewhere a little farther out from campus than your usual spots. A crowd favorite is the Pantry on Mechanic Street with a menu including cinnamon bun pancakes, pumpkin pancakes and amazing omelets. The Pantry is cozy and unlike anywhere within walking distance of campus that you should definitely check out before the school year is over.
Although many of your friends will be away, spring break offers a totally different way to explore New Haven and to try new places and things!
