It’s easy to fall down the Netflix rabbit-hole (trust me, I’ve been there!). With so many options, how do you choose where to begin? Keep reading to find out.

Lucifer

Lucifer follows the life of Lucifer Morningstar, the devil himself (literally) who has decided to move out from Hell and live in Los Angeles. Here, he meets Chloe Decker, a LAPD detective who doesn’t believe Lucifer when he says he’s the devil (shocking!). Throughout the course of the show, we see Lucifer attend therapy only to completely misinterpret the advice given by Dr. Linda Martin.

Lucifer discusses the delicate topic of having faith in the divine, especially during challenging times, while emphasizing the importance of being comfortable with the unknown. This show has one of the best character development arches I’ve seen in a long time. We see the writers do a phenomenal job in finding a way to bring the show to a suitable end.

Plus, there’s the added bonus of a “whodunnit” in each episode!

La Casa de Papel (Money Heist)

La Casa de Papel follows the Professor, a calculated genius, who assembles a band of crooks and outcasts to pull off the ultimate heist.

Let me just say that every time you think you know what’s going to happen in this show, you’re always wrong. La Casa de Papel will have you questioning what ethics and morals truly mean as you find yourself rooting for the “bad” guys. The show writers have a gift for plot twists and ensuring that the audience is left dumbfounded as they struggle to figure out what will happen next.

Cobra Kai

This spin-off series from The Karate Kid follows the lives of Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso 34 years after the 1984 All Valley Tournament. These two rivals pick up right where they left off (with a few surprising twists at the end of season 4!). We see Kreese return to the screen, still wreaking havoc in children’s lives.

It’s been great to see the backstory of all the characters in the show, and even feel empathy for some of them (yes, that means Kreese too). Cobra Kai does an excellent job of touching on heavier topics such as childhood trauma, bullying and PTSD.

Plus, who wouldn’t love to see a kick-ass school fight?

Never Have I Ever (NHIE)

NHIE follows the life of Devi Vishwakumar, an Indian-American teen, trying to bounce back after her father’s sudden (and very public) death. She lives with her mom, Nalini Vishwakumar, and cousin, Kamala. Devi is extremely jealous of her cousin and fights very often with her mom, often saying some harsh things. Since her father’s death, Devi has one objective: to find a boyfriend and change how people see her.

This show does a fantastic job of addressing how traumatic experiences can result in irrational decision-making. Devi often finds herself in sticky situations, wreaking havoc on the lives of people she cares about. Truthfully, Devi can often be a very unlikeable person, but hey, at least it’s realistic.

Pretty Smart

Pretty Smart follows book-smart Chelsea (Emily Osment), who moves in with her “not-so-smart” sister Claire, plus her roommates, Grant (Gregg Sulkin), Solana and Jayden. Through the first season, Chelsea learns that being book smart isn’t the only way to measure intelligence.

I’ll admit, I’m a total sucker for sitcoms. Plus, Emily Osment and Gregg Sulkin in one show makes my Disney heart swell with happiness. If you’re looking for a feel-good show that’s a quick watch, then definitely give this one a shot.

With so many options, finding a show can be difficult! Take it from someone who has gone through doom-scrolling more times than she’d like to admit. Now that I’ve finally found a few comfort shows, I just had to share!
