How to Do Fall Like a Gilmore Girl

I don’t know about you, but when I think about Fall, I think of Gilmore Girls. There’s nothing like curling up on your couch with a warm cup of coffee rewatching Gilmore Girls for the hundredth time as soon as Fall hits. Now, although Gilmore Girls might’ve had their questionable moments, one thing they knew how to do right was Fall. With Rory’s stellar autumnal style, Stars Hollow getting decked out in Fall festivities, and Luke’s Diner offering the best coffee for your Fall morning paired with Sookie’s most delicious Fall treats, there is no question that the Gilmore Girls are *the* Fall girl blueprint.

Rory had her flaws (we love her though), but you can’t deny her impeccable style. She served look after look. Her style transcends the small, TV-esque town of Stars Hollow and has even infiltrated TikTok. People are going crazy over the viral “Rory sweater”; her iconic cream–colored cable–knit sweater she wore in the pilot episode. As expected, stores like H&M and Brandy Melville have capitalized on this trend and you too can now obtain the “Rory Sweater”.

Knit sweaters, 90s style mom jeans, and a pair of converse are an easy way to get the “Rory look”. Now, if you’re on the more edgy side, then Lorelai’s look might be more for you. A bedazzled top, leather jacket, and a simple pair of jeans are all you need to give off her “cool-mom-former-rich-girl” vibe.

Now that you’ve got your Gilmore Girls’ style covered, it’s time to actually do Fall related things. Stars Hollow takes Fall very seriously with a myriad of activities culminating at its annual Stars Hollow Autumn Festival. Whether you want to check out the Hay Bale Maze, the Firelight fest, or compete in the Knit-a-thon… there’s something for everyone! If you really wish to have an authentic fangirl moment you can even visit 139 Main St. Unionville, Ontario where the pilot episode of Gilmore Girls was filmed. They even have a self guided tour that you can attend!

One of my other favorite aspects of Fall is the food. Warm coffee with a pumpkin scone is an unmatched combination. But warm coffee in a Luke’s Diner mug takes things to the next level. There’s even a Gilmore Girls inspired cookbook that has all the recipes from the show! So if you want to do Fall like Sookie St. James then whip out your Gilmore Girls cookbook and try creating something delicious (hopefully) and nostalgic.

For all the die-hard Gilmore girl fans like myself, I hope this guide helps you become the Fall-enthused Gilmore Girl of your dreams. If you aren’t a Gilmore Girls fan or have not even seen the show, then I hope you are now convinced to watch. Start watching the beloved series for the Fall vibes, stay for Lorelai and Rory’s antics and questionable love life choices.
