The words “please and thank you” have become non-existent. As someone who grew up in a household where manners were expected, I do not hear them from others too often. Respect is a major expectation in my life. From someone who works with the public all day long, I hear “please and thank you” only a few times a day, out of the hundreds that I serve. Not only is it disrespectful to the person serving you, but this is what children see and hear.
Here are ways to be polite:
- Say “thank you” after someone has done something for you.
- Say “your welcome” if you do something for someone.
- Say “please” when requesting someone to do something for you.
