So, what’s so environmentally-friendly about these particular shampoos and conditioners? Firstly, their formulas exclude silicones, colorants, parabens, and (for shampoos) those pesky sulfates. Why is this so incredibly awesome? Well, all of these things are really harsh on the environment (non-biodegradable) and on the people (like me in the future, hopefully!) whose job it is to remove them from our water supplies.
Take sulfates, for example. They’re one of the reasons why your shampoo foams up. However, from the environmental standpoint, being inorganic, they will not biodegrade and must be removed from our waste water before it can be re-released back into the environment. We talked about this in one of my environmental engineering classes. It’s weird how a small change I make today can have an impact on my possible future job… (If you’re interested in this treatment process, read more here).
Smells good? Check. Better for the environment? Check. Works well with my hair? Double check! After my shower today, my hair was cooperative, something that doesn’t happen all too often. It was smooth, frizz-free, and shiny. I can’t wait to try the hair butter – it sounds so luxurious. Okay, I’m sure I’m hooked!
