As a fashion-forward collegiette, you are always looking for a way to up the (sartorial) ante. From layering to accessorizing, it feels like you’ve tried every trick in the style handbook. And with our student budget, most of us can’t update our wardrobes with Saint Laurent’s moto boot or The Row’s chic backpack (unless you want to forgo eating, which we strongly discourage). However, we can take inspiration from the runway and look très au courant by sporting fall’s hottest color combinations. Since most of these hues are already lurking in your closet, this tactic is both easy and affordable. Translation? We’re obsessed. Whether you want to try you luck at color blocking or invest in some pieces that combine these hues, these five pigment pairings are a must!
1. Navy and Black
Gone are the days when only black, white, and grey were considered neutrals. Now, tastemakers are deeming more colors versatile: brown, camel, ivory, and navy. Rest assured, fashionistas, navy isn’t the new black. On the contrary, navy should be worn with black. Francisco Costa sent navy dresses with black accessories down the AW 2013 RTW runway; ChloĂ©‘s array of navy and black pieces are perfect for color blocking; and  Chanel’s fall collection boasts navy separates with noir details. Whether you’re paying homage to your inner minimalist or are opting for a feminine look, this color combination is undeniably sophisticated.
2. Pale Pink and Grey
Light colors are only for the spring, right? Wrong. This season, channel your inner girly girl by sporting some of the lightest shades on the market. Céline’s pink and grey looks are perfection while Richard Nicoll’s two-toned coat brings color blocking to the next level. While there’s nothing wrong with sporting all black ensembles, revitalize your look every now and then with this fetching color combination.
3. Emerald and Gold
When Monique Lhuillier, Frida Giannini, and the geniuses at Pantone all consider emerald one of this season’s hottest colors, you know it’s a big deal. Give this popular hue a refreshing twist by pairing it with gold. Though both colors are borderline overpowering, styling them together will create a thought-provoking look at is so style blog worthy. Tone down this duo by adding black accents a la  Balmain’s fall collection. And yes, stylistas, you can forgo the strong shoulders and tapered trousers.
4. Ice Blue and White
Not only do you have the opportunity to go walking in a winter wonderland, but your ensembles can be inspired by this snowy season. Emporio Armani’s take on this color combination artfully combines unexpected textures, and Kenzo’s cozy sweatshirts and envelope skirts were accessorized with eclectic white booties. Sport two trends at once with a light blue statement jacket and white shoes a la Carven’s fall collection. Pay homage to these collections by taking this opportunity to experiment with different textures and silhouettes.
5. Bordeaux and Black
Just because bordeaux is a quintessential autumn color doesn’t mean it’s passĂ©. In fact, several designers sent this hue down the runway. For an edgy and season look, pair this coveted color with black. Christopher Kane’s appliquĂ©d pieces allow the bordeaux flowers to pop, and Ralph Lauren’s collection gives this trend a cozy twist.  From pantsuits to adorned dresses, Roberto Cavalli’s fall collection proves that this dynamic duo is one of the hottest color collaborations of the season. Give the wine hue the attention it deserves by finishing your look with black accessories.
