In a little over a week, New York Fashion Week (NYFW) is set to begin again and will showcase the latest designs for the Autumn/Winter 2012 lines. Besides the big names like Diane von Furstenberg, Rebecca Minkoff, and Michael Kors, there are tons of other reasons we here at Her Campus love NYFW. Here are the top five reasons we canât wait for it to start:
Â
1. Insane Amounts of Images on Streetstyle Blogs
Of course streetstyle blogs generally update on a regular basis but when itâs fashion week, the amount and quality of the images definitely increases. Blogs like StreetFSN and Jak & Jil are just two examples of sites that rely on the streetstyle of editors, models, and celebrities going to and from the fashion shows. New York is no exception. If anything, New York serves as the hub for all of these blogs and for amateurs looking to break into the streetstyle biz.
2. Inspiration for the Coming Season
Â
If youâre like me, you probably have a folder somewhere on your computer titled âInspirationâ or maybe you have a Tumblr where you curate all these images. Either way, NYFW pictures will probably make up the bulk of these images after early February. Runway images from Anna Sui and Carolina Herrera mixed with snapshots of Karlie Kloss leaving Lincoln Center are sure to make an appearance in where ever you keep your inspiration images.
Â
3. Behind-the-Scenes Model Videos
Â
These, I can say without a doubt, are my favorite. Sometimes the videos show models dancing and singing along to their favorite songs (like âEmpire State of Mindâ by Jay-Z). Other fun behind-the-scenes model videos include the Model Diaries from New York Magazines âThe Cutâ blog (one of my favorites is of Jacquelyn Jablonski). Itâs hard to say why I find these videos so entertaining, maybe itâs because it gives another dimension to the models that we only see in still images.
4. Front Row Fixtures
Â
As a collegiette, I feel like I can speak for the majority of us and say that, whether we want to admit it or not, we love the celebrity trend (itâs kind of a guilty pleasureâŠ). All of the fashion weeks (London, Milan, Paris, etc.) are star-studded events but NYFW definitely takes the cake. While you can find a lot of these images on tabloid blogs, Style.com and WWD also have some celebrity coverage. I prefer these over the tabloids because the fashion sites offer more information as to who and what celebrities are wearing instead of who they are with and the latest gossip.
Â
5. Procrastination from Homework
Â
Alright, so this reason might not be the most relevant of reasons but NYFW coverage is a great way to procrastinate. Tons of new images, videos, and articles crop up every minute during fashion week that sometimes it can take hours to go through everything. It seems like the perfect way to avoid writing that paper or doing that huge project, doesnât it?
