As every style savant knows, keeping up with the latest trends is a yearlong job With some of our favorite designers revealing swoon-worthy threads for Resort 2014, it’s quite obvious that style doesn’t get a summer vacation. In the event your amazing internship or sweet summer romance has prevented you from checking out everything fashion’s finest designers have to offer, check out these six show-stopping collections. Trust us, you won’t be sorry.
For those who expect every resort collection to be as picturesque as a Slim Aarons’s photograph, think again. As the resident kings of downtown cool, David Neville and Marcus Wainwright wowed with an abundance of layers and gothic hues. This collection is so anti-Resort, and that’s what makes it so great. Though many of us imagine warm voyages to Saint Tropez or Mykonos, Rag & Bone gives consumers another way to spend the “resort” season. The result? Pieces that are très chic all the time. After looking at the fiery red coat and plethora of slouchy trousers, I kind of wish these pieces were available for the upcoming fall semester.
When the temperature rises, even the most stylish collegiette is bound to loathe fashion at some point. Who cares about looking cute when you’re fighting off frizz and sweat at the same time? Luckily, Smilovic and the rest of the Tibi team remedy this problem with easy to wear pieces that are bound to make a statement. The full midi-length skirts are perfect for channeling Audrey Hepburn; however, they can look super modern with a tight, cropped top. And to be perfectly honest, I would wear that denim playsuit a little too much.
Though crisp silhouettes and muted color palettes have never been more on trend, many style mavens are not ready to ditch the ultra girly aesthetic just yet. With delicious floral prints and boyish silhouettes, Erdem creates a compromise that appeases both sides of this sartorial tug-of-war. Plus, I adore how the brand embraces matching prints. Though clashing patterns seem to be the norm nowadays, sporting one floral design generates an ensemble that’s both funky and classic. As a side note, who doesn’t want to spend their days in the flowery moto jacket and nights wearing that dress of petals? Exactly.
The British designer is never afraid of making a sartorial splash. With an innovative mix of feminine colors and casual silhouettes, McCartney reinvents the girly girl prototype this cruise season. Â The collection opens with a bang: Zlata Mangafic sported a luxe snakeskin jacket with dainty floral shorts. Thankfully, the rest of the looks were just as satisfying. From asymmetrical playsuits to embellished mini dresses, this collection is funky, wearable and exactly what your average cool girl is dying to wear.
Perhaps the camel ensembles are nothing new for the American sportswear guru; however, the mix of fierce fabrics and retro figures gives the classic line a spunky twist. From super sexy evening gowns to shapeless sweaters, this Kors collection is unique because it offers a wide variety of styles that fashionistas with different tastes are bound to love.
Season after season, Clare Waight Keller gifts the fashion world with streamlined and innovative silhouettes. Fortunately, Resort 2014 is no exception. Though the minimalist looks are impressive, this collection’s wow factor is the array of statement jackets—that heavy duty pinstripe coat and pink moto-inspired jacket are to die for. To be fair, the feminine, textured ensembles are a close second. The juxtaposition between clean and chaotic makes this collection one of my personal favorites.
