Nothing says fall quite like plaid. However, you don’t have to be a schoolgirl or a Scot to rock this autumnal trend. Here are just a few ways to make plaid rad this season.

1. Tie a flannel shirt around your waist

To revive that 90’s grunge look, pair some denim, a basic tee, and some boots with a flannel top around your waist. It’s like a scarf for your waist!

2. Layer with plaid

Paid a patterned sweater with a flannel top underneath to really create a dynamic look. Be sure to stick with solid-colored bottoms so your outfit isn’t too busy.

3. Revitalize the plaid skirt

You don’t have to look like Britney Spears à la “Oops, I Did It Again” when you wear a plaid skirt. Pair it with a cable knit sweater and some chunky boots for a modernized take on the schoolgirl uniform.

4. Style a plaid shirtdress in unexpected ways

Give your classic flannel shirtdress an unexpected twist by pairing it with tights and edgy accessories, like a leather jacket.

5. Go for a menswear-inspired look

Layer your outfit with an oversized men’s plaid shirt or coat, like a quilted Dickies jacket, for a chic lumberjack look. Be sure to add flirty accessories, like heels and chunky necklaces, for a feminine touch.

6. Try a pair of tartan ankle pants

Plaid pants don’t have to be just punk rock – they can be stylish too! A pair of cropped plaid pants can easily transition from business casual to a night on the town.

7. Wear a tartan jacket

Top off your outfit with a plaid jacket for a sophisticated fall look. Stick to a muted pattern with blue, greens, and grays for a subdued approach to this trend.

8. Add some plaid accessories

If you want just a touch of plaid, try adding some tartan-inspired accessories, such as a pair of plaid booties or a plaid-patterned bag.
