After Christopher Kane, the former creative director of Versace’s diffusion line, Versus, left his position at the label almost a year ago, Versace announced that the brand would be undergoing a major transformation The conservative androgyny of the collection designed by its first guest designer this June, J.W. Anderson, was certainly a step in a different direction, but with WWD’s recent report that Anthony Vaccarello may be the next guest designer for Versus, we can only expect to see a lot more of Versace’s signature sex appeal in the label’s next collection.
Known for his racy designs and revealing gowns, the Paris based designer displayed sensuous slits accented with industrial materials in his Fall 2013 RTW line, which he described as “a big change for me” as there was “nothing fitted.” Though the line could arguably only be considered conservative in relation to Vaccarello’s other work, the collection strongly parallels Donatella Versace’s bold return to couture in her Atelier Versace Fall 2013 Couture Line shown this summer.
Though the rumor is yet to be confirmed, its clear that Vaccarello has the capacity to create a collection for Versus that could cooperate with Versace’s classic vision and quintessential sultriness.
