Last night, celebrities lined the red carpet just before the 83rd Academy Awards were presented.  Here’s what Her Campus has to say about the fashion we saw!
Â
 TOP 5 BEST DRESSED:
Mila Kunis looked amazing in a lavender Elie Saab Haute Couture gown last night. Her Neil Lane diamonds accented the dress perfectly and her hair was flawless! Did anybody catch her entrance? She had a Beyonce-like stride towards the red carpet- total confidence!Â
Hailee Steinfeld wore a custom-made Marchesa gown last night and I loved the shortened tea-length. On a carpet full of longer gowns and voluminous trains, Hailee’s dress and silhouette stood out. It would have looked silly on anyone else but Hailee definitely pulled it off. Hailee drew this design and I think the overall look was definitely age appropriate (She’s only 14 years old)! Some didn’t like it, but the headband (I thought) was a youthful, unique accessory!
Gwyneth Paltrow stood out on the carpet last night. She nailed the metallic look with this chic Calvin Klein dress and the straight silhouette was a nice change. Louis Vuitton jewelry finished off her look with her earrings, ring, and brooch!
Halle Berry showed off her envious figure in a beautiful Marchesa gown. This crystal-encrusted nude dress perfectly highlighted her skintone and the ruffled drama of the train was gorgeous!  Neil Lane earrings gave Halle some serious swag- she can do no wrong!Â
Scarlett Johansson looked casual last night in her Dolce & Gabbana dress, but I still loved it. Ok, maybe I’m a bit biased because I have the biggest girl crush on Scarlett, but I honestly think she spiced up the carpet a bit with this burgundy lace look! The backless dress was dramatic but Scarlett contrasted this with loose, wavy curls and her choppy bob will no doubt be the latest haircut request.  TOP 5 WORST DRESSED:
Nicole Kidman’s Dior Haute Couture gown had too much going on for me. The structuring of the dress made her look wider at the hips and the embellishment of the bodice didn’t do anything exciting. Nicole wore a ponytail with her dress- an updo that I don’t think accentuates the Old Hollywood feel of her dress. I wanted to see Nicole in something similar to what she wore at the Grammys- the silhouette of her Jean Paul Gaultier gown was gorgeous!
Helena Bonham Carter, is well, to be honest, sticking to her eccentric personal style in this Colleen Atwood dress so I must give her credit for that. No one does gothic glam quite like she does. She did say ahead of time that her dress would be probably be a catastrophe and although I will say she did looked much more pulled together than I was expecting, she still didn’t hit a homerun. Her sleeves looked like they went through a paper shredder, maybe a few times at best, and the bodice looked ill-fitting and unflattering. Her British flag garter was patriotism at its best though!  Â
Melissa Leo’s Marc Bouwer dress looked like a combination of doilies and curtains and I thought it was super unflattering! The dress looked heavy and constricting, and the table-cloth like pattern of the dress did not do her any favors! The high neck and strong shoulders looked harsh rather than elegant.Â
Marisa Tomei wore a 1950 couture gown by Charles James from Lily et Cie and I thought this dress was anything but flattering. The neckline appeared too high and the straps seemed to be too wide. The top and bottom almost seemed mismatched and while I appreciate the vintage design, I’ve seen Marisa look better!
Reese Witherspoon was, to me, a little boring last night. When I first saw her I immediately thought of Julia Roberts circa 2001 when she won Best Actress. However, Julia Roberts’ dress was WAY more exciting than Reese’s Giorgio Amani Privé gown. Reese’s hair was a little too Legally Blond bouncy for me and I felt like she was playing it a little too safe!
Hit or Miss??  What do you think of Cate Blanchett’s Givenchy Haute Couture gown, collegiettes™?
