If you close your eyes and imagine 2000s fashion, its likely there’s one icon that comes to mind: Britney Spears. However, throughout the years of her all-denim ensembles, sheer and diamond bodysuits, and the sexy school-girl look that changed Halloween costumes forever; Britney has (surprisingly!) never been the face of a major fashion brandâŠuntil now.Â
On Monday, the fashion brand Kenzo teased fans on Instagram with a video showcasing a âmystery star,â however, it didnât take a super sleuth (or the head of Britneyâs fan club) to figure out who it was.Â
In the comments, fans tagged the pop icon, exclaiming that they âcouldnât waitâ for the collection. While it seemed like âBritneyâ was synonymous with âQUEENâ in the comments, I have to admit that it wasnât particularly difficult to spot who the âstarâ was, with her signature blonde hair and the classic Britney smouldering smokey eye.Â
Britney took to Instagram herself to confirm fans’ suspicions, with this photo that looks like a total #throwback.Â
Dressed in a trucker hat;Â a cropped, comfy-looking sweatshirt;Â a small, vintage backpack and a back tattoo that you couldnât help but notice, its surprising that the photo didnât have #TBT attached. Since all old trends seem to come back in style eventually (*coughs* scrunchies), it seems like this might mark fashionâs move away from the chokers and grungy style that was reminiscent of the â90s, and are back to the glorious 2000s.
Britney is the face of the brandâs newest campaign, Memento N°2, which, from the released photos, looks like it may have taken more from the era than just its biggest stars. Cosmopolitan was quick to draw a connection between a photo of Spears wearing head-to-toe denim with the iconic denim dress that she sported at the 2001 American Music Awards with Justin Timberlake.
Check out the rest of the released photos.
Who else canât wait for this stunning collection and to see more of Britneyâs start in the fashion world?!Â
