Today’s shower time: just under three minutes, but no shampoo or conditioner
The shower situation: after a 5 mile run, before grocery shopping (which had to happen before dinner was possible)
Why you should come back tomorrow: to see how I’m celebrating the challenge’s 1/2 way point
Let me start by confessing I wasn’t very eco friendly yesterday. My shower was quick. I’ll also point out I waited to do laundry until I had a lot, which is a great way to conserve water, but I forgot my tea mug and had to use the dreaded paper cup provided. I also went grocery shopping and ended up using the plastic bags, which I had planned to stop doing. I just had to get this off my chest. Being green all the time is really tough, but small steps make a big difference.
Yesterday was a wonderful day. It was beautiful, and whenever it gets warm people gather on the Quad. I love to see people outside! There were bake sales and frisbees. Also, my weekend started at 4 p.m. so I was really able to enjoy the day. It’s not hard to get through class when you know four straight days without it are right around the corner.
Most importantly, I saw the 2011 Illio for the first time!
The Illio is the University of Illinois yearbook. Yes, (some) colleges still have yearbooks. I was editor in chief of the Illio. It took almost all of my time, but it was time well spent. I am so proud of my staff and this book. I am so thankful for my family, boyfriend and friends who were extremely supportive – mostly by not hanging up the phone when I got stressed out.
The theme of our book is Legends. We wanted to connect the past to the present and share in the rich history of our university. Check out the pictures below. They’re small but I’ll post more tomorrow.
Enough of this sentimental talk – for now. I’m sure graduation will bring plenty of it.
Today was also a good day because I turned in my first features story for The Daily Illini. It actually turned into two stories – here’s part one and here’s part two! I’ve worked for The Daily Illini for four years but haven’t reported in over two years. Editing took the recorder out of my hand. The story took an eco friendly turn because vintage shopping promotes recycling. I’m going to be cleaning out my closet soon so this fits into my life.
As promised, here’s the scrumptious meal I cooked after my five mile run: whole wheat spaghetti, vodka sauce, an onion, an orange pepper, spinach and black pepper. We also had some chocolate to snack on while the food was cooking, and for dessert. Except, then we went to Cocomero, a frozen yogurt place similar to Pinkberry. Just a note on the yogurt: Mine and my boyfriend Mark’s cost about $15 together. Mark once spent more than that on his own at Cocomero. The boy eats. A lot.
