Earth Lovers: Getting There

I just took a 5 minute and 30 second shower! Again, so we’re clear, I was in the shower for longer than this. However, I turned the water off when I was lathering and scrubbing. Please don’t worry, this works just as well, and I am in fact clean.

I know what you’re thinking: It’s the 3 minute shower challenge. This girl can’t even get out of the bathroom in 5 minutes.

Please know this is a real accomplishment for me. After most long runs I take long steaming hot showers. Since I didn’t after today’s 10 miles, I’m going to treat myself with a trip to the hot tub this week. Now I just have to find the time for that…

I took the quick shower by:

  • turning the water off whenever possible (chilly but effective and I got used to it)
  • picking a pump up song to play
  • thinking of the peanut butter cookie waiting for me

Most importantly I stayed focused. Athletes know how important focus is. With it, anything is possible.

Besides the hot tub soak, this short shower gave me more time for fun. Here are things I did with the extra time:

  • extra stretching and a bit of yoga
  • a facial
  • made a pot of tea
  • read a magazine article (see my growing stack below)
  • talked with my sister
  • texted with my mom

Most importantly, I have more time to enjoy this beautiful weather. I love when it gets warm outside and everyone is happy. There’s music playing in my apartment building and families at the park. Bring on summer!

I’ll be interning in Chicago this summer, and I’m from the suburbs, which means I’ll have lots of time to see my family and the adorable dog pictured below. Mitzi (my dog) is going to love these short showers because we’ll have more time to walk and play this summer.

This picture is proof of my accomplishment. I had a timer keep me in check!
