So I went. And had a TON of fun and got a TON of color thrown at/on me: in my hair, on my face, in my mouth, down my shirt. I danced, I got sprayed with a hose (of freezing water), I partied with a bunch of strangers. Then, as it was time to go home, I had this realization that my shower was going to be difficult. And not just because of the time constraint but because of the powder. As it had gotten wet, it started to clump and was really hard to get off my skin and out of my hair. Would I be able to stick to the shower challenge?
I’m not new to the world of showering post-paint. In Cal Band, we have a tradition every year were we hike up a big hill behind campus to Big C, a giant concrete symbol of UC Berkeley. We paint it yellow/gold, and inevitably, we paint each other. My showers post-Big C tend to be at least 20 minutes, mostly trying to rub the paint off my skin and peel it out of my hair. It’s a once a year thing, so I’m not usually too hard on myself about the water usage.
After Holi, instead of showering at my own apartment, I showered at a friend’s house. This meant that I did not have the means to play a 3 minute song to pace myself. How did I survive? A 4-minute hourglass (or, as my boyfriend put it, a fifteenth-of-an-hourglass). I guess he got it off a bottle of wash wash or something, but it was really handy in keeping me on time. I wasn’t exactly sure where it was 3 minutes, but I was working so fast in hyperspeed to get all of the color off myself. Which I failed at. I still had color all over my face and neck, but I was able to get it all out of my hair and arms and legs in less than 4 minutes, so I’ll consider it a success.
What a great way to spend the first weekend of spring! What did all of you out there in internet land do to celebrate spring?
