Today’s shower time: 7ish minutes (I know, I know it’s been over a week and I still haven’t hit the 3 minute mark.)
The shower situation: after the 11 mile run
Why you should come back tomorrow: to hear about my half marathon running (It’s right after a run when I realize how important water really is and am thankful drinking H2O isn’t something I have to work hard for.)
I finally bought my own FlipCam a few weeks ago. I’ve used one at internships and jobs, but for some reason I never got my own. Of course, I make the decision to do so right before Cisco announces it’s cutting the FlipCam. Oh well – no use dwelling. You’ve seen my shower challenge video and cooking video. I’ll also post one soon that relates to showering and saving water. It involves my friend Emily who’s always a good time. I’m having so much fun with the camera! It’s an incredible tool.
I’m working on a mapping project right now so I’ve been looking at a ton of examples. This one isn’t interactive but it’s really neat. It shows you what each state does well in terms of the environment and what each state sucks at. For instance, Illinois has the most toxic waste accidents but it also has the most nuclear power. Weird correlation there? There are some really fun and interesting stats. Pennsylvania has the most organic mushrooms. But it’s got nothing on the state of Washington. Washington has the most organic apples! Check out the map to find out which state has the lowest obesity rate, which has the most solar power potential, which has the top 8th-grade science students and which has the top exercise rate. The last in that list surprised me because it can get pretty chilly in this state.
Do you guys know of any other great sites for this fun green/environment information?
If you haven’t picked up on it yet, I’m procrastinating. I need to be writing a story and I could be doing homework, but neither of those things seem to be happening. I legitimately just Googled “green celebrities.” This waste of time actually proved beneficial because I can bring you some fun bits. Seventeen has a great slideshow but I’ll give the key points:
- Brad Pitt gave a lot of money to build green homes in post-Katrina New Orleans.
- Miley Cyrus’ clothing line is eco-friendly.
- One that hits home: Jay-Z is founder of the United Nation’s Water for Life. The organization works to give people access to clean drinking water. As if I needed another reason to think Jay is crazy cool.
- Leonardo DiCaprio is totally green. He’s even produced a documentary about our impact on our surroundings.
- Entourage fans can rest easy knowing Adrian Grenier is very concerned for the planet. He has a show that encourages and teaches people to become greener. He also has a charity that works to bring people safe drinking water.
