The 2023 Met Gala is just days away, and anticipation is high. This event never fails to give us some of the best looks of all time. Every year, I love seeing which celebs completely slay the carpet and who decided to follow the dress code, which always turns into a huge debate. This year’s theme is Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, which honors the late designer’s work and legacy. So, I’m so super excited to see which stars will be the best (or worst) dressed.Â
Until then, I’m reminiscing on some of the looks from the past Met Galas, especially from the hottest celebrity couples. This event is known for having iconic pop culture moments that had us all talking the next day. You can’t forget Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson’s debut from the 2022 Met Gala, or Justin and Hailey Bieber’s first appearance together on the Met steps in 2021. Even though some of these relationships may be over, here are 15 of my favorite couple looks from the past Met Galas. I wait to see who will be making their couple debut this year!
- Blake Lively & Ryan Reynolds (2022)
-
Watching Blake Lively transform her dress on the carpet while her husband, Ryan Reynolds, watched in amazement was one of the most memorable Met Gala moments of all time!
- Nick Jonas & Priyanka Chopra (2019)
-
This was Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra’s first Met Gala together as a married couple since they went as each other’s date in 2017. They were definitely one of the best dressed couples of the night while staying completely on theme.Â
- Gigi Hadid & Zayn Malik (2016)
-
I absolutely loved Hadid and Malik’s matching robotic, futuristic look that had everyone wowed!
- Sophie Turner & Joe Jonas (2022)
-
This was one of my favorite looks from the 2022 Met Gala. Turner and Jonas coordinated their looks perfectly while wearing black and white and giving gothic vibes.Â
- Gabrielle Union & Dwyane Wade (2022)
-
You couldn’t miss Union and Wade on the carpet with their matching white and silver looks. I also love how Union stood out with a feathered train and a red flower around her waist.
- Rihanna & A$AP ROCKY (2021)
-
This was one look that I didn’t expect, but still loved! Rihanna and A$AP showed up at the absolute last minute and still had all the attention on them. I love how Rihanna incorporated Black culture into her look and celebrated being an immigrant, while A$AP definitely surprised everyone with his thrifted quilt.
- JODIE TURNER-SMITH & JOSHUA JACKSON (2022)
-
This couple was the definition of glamour on the Met steps. Jodie’s look was inspired by legendary actress Diahann Carroll, whose style was all about class.
- KIM KARDASHIAN & KANYE WEST (2016)
-
Kim and Kanye made sure to stand out on the carpet with their matching metallic and denim look. They were even named Vogue’s best dressed couple that year.
- Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth (2019)
-
This was one of my favorite looks from Cyrus at the Met Gala — her black and green asymmetrical dress was everything. Hemsworth wore an all-black tuxedo that perfectly matched her aesthetic.
- Jennifer Lopez & Alex Rodriguez (2019)
-
J. Lo made everyone’s heads turn on the carpet with her beaded gown with a matching headpiece. Rodriguez wore a pastel pink tuxedo jacket that matched the pink carpet.Â
- Beyoncé & JAy-Z (2014)
-
Beyonce and Jay Z have attended the Met Gala many times throughout the years, but this look has always been one of my favorites. They gave old Hollywood vibes, with Bey’s black dress and matching headpiece along with Jay’s white tuxedo jacket.
- Pharrell Williams and Helen Lasichanh (2021)
-
Pharrell and his wife, Helen Lasichanh, are one of the most stylish couples ever, and they never disappoint at the Met Gala. They made sure to stay on theme with their matching cowboy-inspired looks.Â
- Selena Gomez & The Weeknd (2017)
-
This may be their only appearance together as a couple at the Met Gala, but you can’t forget how whimsical Gomez looked with her silk dress and bright pink makeup. The Weeknd wore a black suit with a floral brooch.Â
- Kylie Jenner & Travis Scott (2018)
-
Jenner and Scott kept it simple with their matching, all-black, military-inspired look that still had everyone talking.Â
- Cole Sprouse & Lili reinhart (2019)
-
Sprouse and Reinhart understood the assignment when it came to camp for this Met Gala theme. Sprouse wore a red suit vest covered in flowers, while Reinhart wore a blue romper with bold sleeves and flowers in her hair. They complemented each other’s looks perfectly, and definitely gave off Alice in Wonderland vibes!
