When most people hear “Olympic highlights” they undoubtedly think of Aly Raisman, Kirani James or Oscar Pistorius. I on the other hand hear ‘highlights’ and immediately think of going for gold—hair dye that is.
Lucky for me, London called Her Campus this year. And by ‘London calling’ I mean that I was put in touch with our local Sassoon Salon’s Liverpool import, Cole Thompson. Equal parts dapper and talented, I had the privilege of meeting the salon’s new creative director and getting to know what Sassoon was doing in honor of the 2012 London Olympics.
To celebrate, the iconic British salon came out with a new series of “effortless, sophisticated looks; expertly tailored by Sassoon stylists to suit every individual.” With metallic hues fit for the podium and sleek cuts that that require little maintenance Sassoon clearly understands the meaning of high performance hair. This should come as no surprise though, as the Vidal Sassoon cut figure skater Dorothy Hamill’s hair for the 1976 Olympics, and Sassoon has been the ‘official hair care consultants to the athletes’ since 1984.
Despite my egregious lack of athletic accomplishments (my last marathon was Bravo, not Boston), Creative Director Cole Thompson and Color Director Richie Rivera agreed to give me the Sassoon Salon Athletica experience. Together they transformed my locks with the help of a Malibu vitamin C detoxing treatment, a full head of subtle highlights, and a precise cut with strategic long layers. In line with the salon’s mission of styling to the individual they put a great deal of time into figuring out what worked best with my skin tone, bone structure and lifestyle. And the gold medal for client service goes to Cole and Richie. Obsessed.
Want your own no fuss, high performance makeover? Obvi. Color and cuts start at $65 and $80, respectively and if you want to save some money (to buy back to school essentials like Essie nail polish) be sure to ask about being a student model. As a student model you can save big benjamins by letting Sassoon Salon stylists-in-training transform your hair under the direction of masters like Cole and Richie. What a lovely way to support education ;) And whatever you do, be sure to bring your student ID, yes the picture may be heinous, but you’ll get the 20% off!
Happy Olympic makeovers, collegiettes.
