Every year, some time post-Labour Day and pre-Halloween, a collection of knits begins to assemble in my wardrobe, steadily increasing in number and size as the dreary hibernal days drag on into February, March, and for us northernmost souls, April.
From the chunky to the lightweight, the oversized to the cropped, the novelty to the secondhand- (or maybe twenty-secondhand; who really knows when it’s thrift?)- a cozy sweater never fails to take the bite off a snowy squall, a pesky draft, or the absolute worst: a pair of wet socks.
While it may not seem it when your hands are growing raw scrubbing salt stains off your Frye’s for the second time this week- (and it’s only Monday)- Winter does, indeed, come to an end, eventually. And though you watch with eager satisfaction as the snow piles dwindle down to nada with each passing day, the pile of knits in your closet will not simply melt away when the nice weather finally comes.
Don’t just marinate them in mothballs and pack them away for half the year, reclaim them’ gems for the new season! Check out the looks below and find out how to repurpose your sweaters for Spring.
