Kim Kardashian arrived at the Met Gala with her daughter North West by her side. Kardashian wore a beautiful beaded dress by Schiaparelli. Schiaparelli’s Creative Director David Roseberry worked on Kardashian’s Met look, and Kardashian said that her pearls were inspired by Karl Lagerfeld and Chanel. The SKIMS founder made sure to note that her look is made of real pearls — her pearly-stringed bodice and bottom-half of her dress were broken up by a nude corset. North matched her mother’s energy with a taupe jacket, blue jeans, and pearly accents. Kardashian wore a classy messy updo to echo her glamorous vibe. She finished off her look with a luxurious white cape.
This Met Gala was about feeling glamorous for Kardashian. Kardashian spoke to Derek Blasberg and Chole Fineman this year about not feeling pressure to outdo her past looks at the Met Ball this year. She spoke cheerfully about pregaming at the hotel with her sisters and North waiting in the car while she walked the carpet.
This is Met Gala No. 10 for Kardashian. The Kardashian-Jenner family are always expected guests at the illustrious event. Kardashian’s Met looks are known to turn heads, and sometimes spark controversy. Days before the Met Gala this year, Kardashian posted on her Instagram that she “spent some time at @karllagerfeld’s office to get a little inspiration for the Met.”
Kardashian last attended the Met Gala 2022, and she wore a vintage Jean Louis dress last worn by Marilyn Monroe — aka the infamous “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” dress. It was a gorgeous, sheer floor-length dress with 6,000 crystals sewn into it.
There was heated debate about Kardashian putting herself through an extreme diet to fit into the dress. The dress could not be altered to fit her figure because it constituted a piece of historical significance. After the event, rumors sparked about Kardashian allegedly ruining the dress. Ripley’s Believe It or Not! is the organization that owns Monroe’s dress, and they posted a statement in June 2022 saying “she did not, in any way, damage the garment in the short amount of time it was worn at the Met Gala.”
