Over the past few years, the beauty industry has changed drastically. Rihanna came out with her makeup line, Fenty Beauty, in 2017, where she included over 40 shades of foundation, including several shades for darker skin tones. This revolutionary launch left other brands scrambling, as they knew the range Fenty Beauty had released would leave them looking at a competitive force that could put them out of business. After the brand’s launch, many other makeup and beauty companies followed suit in creating foundation shades for darker skin tones. Since then, many brands have also created different eyeshadows, eyeliners, and more that are inclusive, designed to cater to all skin tones.

Platforms like Thirteen Lune were formed to highlight Black and Brown-owned beauty brands. Glossier started a grant initiative, where they provided 16 businesses with $50,000 each to support their brands. Makeup artists and gurus like Pat McGrath and Jackie Aina have gained a lot of attention from publications and the beauty industry, because of their popularity and work. While the beauty industry is still lacking diversity, things are starting to shift in the right direction, with more brands and publications highlighting Black-owned beauty brands and makeup artists. The rise of popularity in Black beauty gurus and makeup artists has shifted the beauty industry, with many different makeup looks being created, so here are five perfect makeup looks for Black women!

Glitter Galore

If you want a simple way to enhance your eyeshadow look, glitter is definitely the way to go! You can make your eye pop with the right colors. Using a sparkly and pigmented highlighter is also great for going all out on the glitter!

To get the most poppin’ and glittery eye looks, products such as Glossier’s Lidstar ($18), Colourpop’s Blush Crush ($14), and Good As Gold ($18) eyeshadow palettes are perfect for getting that beautiful and bright glow!

Neon Liner

Neon liner is one of the latest trends to hit the beauty world, and Black girls are taking over this trend, showcasing different neon liners around their eyes to enhance their makeup look. Colors like yellow, orange, bright pink, blue, and red (check out Urban Decay for all of those shades) are particularly popular within the beauty community. To achieve a more pigmented neon look, liquid liner should definitely be your go-to!

Bright Blush

To give you that perfect enhanced cheek look, bright cream blush is definitely perfect for our skin! Products such as Glossier’s Cloud Paint ($18) or Colourpop’s Pressed Powder Blush ($9-$12) are perfect for giving your cheeks that bright, warm glow!

Euphoria Makeup

After HBO’s hit show, Euphoria, premiered in 2019, fans were obsessed with the makeup looks and recreated them on Instagram and TikTok. Since then, the looks from the show have become a staple for those interested in all things beauty. A few popular looks from the show that make our skin pop, in addition to glitter and neon products, are gems around the eyes, cloud patterns around the eyes (try white liquid liner!) and makeup stickers around the eyelids.

Golden Girl

The last makeup look that we have in store for you is gold pigmented eyeshadow! Gold eyeshadow is great if you’re wanting to try a more extra and over-the-top look. After Pat McGrath did model Adut Akech’s makeup for the Valentino runway show in 2019, the makeup look went viral. I and many other Black women were obsessed with this look and wanted to recreate it. Gold eyeshadow is a staple eye look and you can totally be extra af with it.
