New York Fashion Week: Days 3 and 4

I love it when fashion makes me think like art does, whether I don’t understand it or I can just appreciate it.

One line in particular that made me think was Cynthia Rowley’s Spring 2011 collection. She mixes brights like mustard with pastels like periwinkle for a harsh but thoughtful contrast which I think will make an interesting addition to the look of spring. I really like her use of geometry with the cutouts. She puts a modern spin on a lot of more classic pieces, and I have a lot of respect for that. Here’s one outfit I especially like:

I also have a lot of respect for newcomer Prabal Gurung’s line. While a lot of his dresses and skirts were the same length, but his silhouettes are so clean and sophisticated. Like Cynthia Rowley, he also makes interesting use of geometry:

Although Christophe Lemaire is leaving Lacoste after this collection, he’s certainly going out with a bang. He’s done a lot to change Lacoste from being just about polo shirts. So much of Lemaire’s designs are thoughtful and are really taking the line in a new direction, like this one:

Lastly, I thought Lela Rose had to offer for the upcoming season. Her designs are playful and youthful but elegant. It’s rare that I see designs that I both like and could see myself actually wearing, but there are tons of those pieces in Rose’s collection.
