It’s, well, brutal out here – especially if you’ve recently ordered Olivia Rodrigo’s merch. Unfortunately, while her music lives up to the hype it’s received, the same cannot be said for the official products inspired by it. A mistake or two can always be forgiven, especially by devoted fans. This, however, is a little more than just a few issues.
The problems with Olivia’s merch have been blasted all over social media, but especially on TikTok. Chloe Mahaley shared the immense difference between the lilac sweater with cuffs on the sleeves that she ordered and the deep purple sweater with absolutely no cuffs to be seen that she received.
Alex, otherwise known as imcryingtopunisher, ordered a white crop top with three images of Olivia in the center. She ended up getting a top that wasn’t cropped whatsoever, looking more like a dress when she donned it. The pictures on it were also smaller than shown in the advertisements, and off-centered no only on the garment, but with each other.
Another notable TikTok from Madi, also known as alohamagdalena, showed how the bucket hat she ordered was way too small for her head. What is this, merch for toddlers?
The bracelet Madi purchased was meant to have the letters in round beads instead of squared ones, but the earrings – surprisingly – were just as advertised.
At the end of the day, while I love Olivia Rodrigo’s music and personality, she needs to realize that even when management is dealing with merch, it’s still her name on it. It’s her who people will be looking at when things go “sour,” even though she likely had little to nothing to do with product choice or design. She deserves a little leeway as a newcomer to the scene, but this is an excellent opportunity for her to take control of something that means so much to her fans, and to set an example to industry veterans that have had similar issues! That’s a lot of money to throw away on false advertisement.
