Yes, you read it right, and yes we’re crying too. However this destruction of makeup wasn’t for entertainment, malice, or to help bring out the brightest pigments of color––it was just a kid enjoying their playtime in a Sephora store. After all, how could you resist smearing your hands in these bright shades?
Makeup artist Brittney Nelson brought attention to the incident via a Facebook post. After stating that $1,300 worth of Make Up Forever eye shadow was destroyed, she continued by telling mothers everywhere to refrain from shopping with their young ones.
This launched an argument from moms across social media. Many felt attacked by Nelson and that they were being “mom-shamed.” Others commented saying the display was too high for a child to reach and that it could easily be a publicity stunt. Some took Nelson’s side, saying the parent should be responsible for whatever “vandalism” the child commits.Whether the parent should or should not be responsible is up to their own personal values, however there is a thin line between “mom-advice” and “mom-shaming.” One thing we should always keep in mind is that many parents face different life circumstances. Not every parent can afford to keep a babysitter to watch over their child while they are shopping, or maybe the only time a parent can shop is after picking up their child from school. Or maybe parents just want to spend extra time with their children! Hey, we live in a unique, diverse world everybody!
Either way, we will pay our respects to the makeup lost. It’s a tragedy to lose such beautiful eyeshadows––but it’s even more of a tragedy to judge others who we don’t know. That is all.
