When it comes to hairstyling, Kim Vo is a fixture. The colorist has worked with Britney Spears and Katherine Heigl, among many other big names, to create some of their most iconic looks. Not only that, but the charismatic Vo has been featured on a number of reality TV shows, including Khloé Kardashian’s Revenge Body. To celebrate the launch of his brand new blow dry salon in Beverly Hills, the stylist shared the top hairstyles on his radar for the summer with Her Campus. Read on for #hairgoals inspo, and for tips from the master himself.
1. Rose Gold Hair
Rose gold is the go-to shade for just about everything these days, from your iPhone to your sneakers. Like with pretty much every trend in 2017, it has transpired into people’s hair—and Vo is not immune to the pull of this hair color. “To keep your rose gold color fresh, wash your hair with cold water and use a color protecting shampoo,” he says. “You can also use a dry shampoo—the less you wash your hair, the better! This type of color is not recommended to try at home. If you are going to make the [jump] to Rose Gold Hair, be sure to go to a professional and prepare yourself to be at the salon for a few hours.”
2. Unicorn Braid
No, this look doesn’t involve an array of pastel colors (although it can if you want it to). “This is a french braid along the center part,” Vo says. “You can do this look with the hair up, or with the hair down. This is an edgy twist on a classic French braid that I have noticed has been highly requested lately—so runway chic!”
3. Sleek & Straight With High Ponytail
Although Ariana Grande’s signature look is a-dorable, it’s no secret that using too much heat can damage your hair. “Always make sure to use a heat protector before flat ironing your hair,” Vo advises. “This is a great way to keep your hair out of your face this summer, but still look chic. You can also finish the look by wrapping a section of hair around the ponytail for a sleek, polished look.”
4. Pin Straight With Middle Part
Proof that sometimes, less is more. “For this look your hair cut must be on point,” Vo warns us. “This works best with a blunt, above the shoulder cut. I recommend using the Kim Vo straightening Balm before styling the hair to keep your hair perfectly straight and smooth all day.”
5. Half Up Bun
This look is so cute, and looks good on just about everyone with mid-length or long hair. “The half up bun has been everywhere,” Vo says. “It’s the easiest way to make your hair look like you have actually done something to it, when all you really have to do it put half of it up into a bun! You can also incorporate braids and twists to jazz it up a bit!”
