I never understood the hype about lipstick for most of my life, probably due to the fact that every lipstick I ever tried ended up smeared on my face or on whatever food I was eating at the time, and didn’t last more than an hour on my actual lips. But all this changed when I discovered Too Faced’s Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick.
These beauties are no ordinary liquid lipstick—no, you are looking at what just may be the most glorious lipstick to ever exist. Here’s why: the quick-drying formula is super easy to apply, and once it dries, it literally does not move. And I don’t just mean for the first hour that you wear it. I mean, it doesn’t move after you’ve been up in the club for five hours dancing (aka sweating) your life away and making out with randos. When you come home at 4 a.m. after all of that, you will still have to use makeup remover to get that shit off. That’s how well it stays. (Side note: I once did all of those things and forgot to take my makeup off before passing out, and when I woke up in the morning, my lipstick was still on and looked ~perfect~. No lie.)
This is important to me because if my lipstick doesn’t last more than a few hours, or even if it does stay on but it constanly is rubbing off on my glass or my boyfriend’s face or whatever, then what good is it really doing? I certainly don’t have time to blot my lips and reapply every two hours. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
Additionally, this formula comes in 23 shades, so there’s bound to be a color for everyone. I haven’t tried them all (yet), but my favorites include Sell Out, which is a nice pinky-brown that makes a perfect nude lip, and Lady Balls, which is a vibrant true red color that looks good on every single skin tone ever. It’s difficult to tell what the color looks like based on the tubes (or especially online), but the Too Faced website as well as several makeup artists have done multiple swatches of the various shades, which are a good reference.
The only complaint I could possibly have about this stuff is that it can tend to dry out your lips. To get the most life out of your lipstick, make sure that your lips are exfoliated and well moisturized before applying, which helps it not to dry and flake later on during the day.
Moral of the story is, I would recommend this matte liquid lipstick to everyone. They’re $21 each, but for such an easy-to-use, long-lasting formula, it’s definitely worth the investment!
