Meet Ben Forster, this week’s campus cutie!  Ben is a New Englander who spends his time at BC doing a ton of extra-curriculars, including intramural sports.  You can find him relaxing outside Bapst (just don’t all mob him at once, ladies), and perhaps even doing a dead-on imitation of the Gingerbread Man from Shrek.  Oh, and he loves Emmanuelle Chiriquí from Entourage (Googled her— she’s hot).

The Basics

Name: Ben Forster
Hometown: Suffield, Connecticut
School/Year: A&S, 2013
Major: Economics

BC Life

Activities/Clubs: Boston College Republican Club, Appa, and some absurd number of intramural teams
Best Class: Israelis & Palestinians
Worst Class: Labor Economics, which is as much work as it sounds.
Bapst or O’Neill: Ya know, I used to be strictly O’Neill and thought Bapst was a silent prison, but it’s growing on me.  It’s about a 50/50 split now.
One thing most excited about for senior year: The possibility of getting a mod.

Favorite Place to Eat: If it didn’t have those unbelievably long lines, it’s Hillside by a mile.  Or the Matt Saffi football tailgate on Shea.
Favorite BC Sport: Toss-up between football and hockey.
Favorite Hangout Spot on Campus: Bapst Lawn.  Great place to just hang out or play a little soccer.

Advice to Freshmen: Stepping outside of your comfort zone and signing up for things like Appa, Kairos, and 48 Hours give you a new group of friends and some of the best week(ends) of your life.

Fun Facts

Biggest Pet Peeve: City driving- it sucks.
Favorite Movie: The Godfather
Favorite TV Show: Modern Family or Boardwalk Empire
Dream Job: Professional Sports Team Owner
Unique Trait: I do a mean impression of the Gingerbread Man from Shrek.
One Word to Describe Yourself: Candid

Celeb Crush: Emmanuelle Chiriquí (Sloan from Entourage)
Ideal Girl: Attractive, shorter than me (not too difficult at 6’3″), and a girl who’s close with her family, because I am with mine.
Ideal Date: It really doesn’t matter where we go, just that we have a good time.  Dinner, movie on the couch… Dealer’s choice.
Turn Ons: I love a great sense of humor, and a girl who’s an athlete.

This boy has been turning heads and making girls swoon—and he doesn’t even know it. Ladies, meet this week’s Campus Cutie, Hubert Trzybinski. He is adorably unaware of his charm, shyly shrugging, “I’m just a normal guy.”

Our sweetheart hails from Berlin, Germany, and is living a pretty busy freshman year so far, balancing school and heavyweight crew. If he’s not at the gym or boathouse, you’ll probably find him studying at Bass or the JE library. And when he does have time, you’ll most likely see him hanging out at the crew house. Thankfully he was able to squeeze an entertaining interview into his packed schedule!

Name: Hubert Trzybinski (pronounced “trah-bin-ski”)
Hometown: Berlin, Germany
(Potential) Major: Economics, Political Science, or Psychology. I don’t have a major right now—I want to try different things.
College: JE
Relationship Status: Single. (go get him, ladies)
Extrovert or Introvert: I’m definitely shy.
Year: 2016, “…but I’m a bit old for my year.”

HC: Well you don’t look too old.
HT: I’m 21. I took a gap year to qualify for the Olympics. It almost worked out…

(We are already impressed.)
HC: Seems like you really like to row. What do you enjoy most about crew?
HT: It’s hard to explain. I just like to row when the water’s really flat in the morning, maybe in the summer. It’s warm and 7AM. There’s nobody on the water, and you’re on the single—just to be on the water on your own…I enjoy it. I like it. I like to be in the water, in nature.

HC: How has it been rowing at Yale?
HT: I like the [Yale] team. In Germany, I just had a training group of around 5 people. But here, it’s maybe 40 people. It’s pretty competitive, and they’re cool guys. Also, being at Yale, you see everybody during the day because the campus is so small. That’s quite cool, because you can make a lot of friends.

HC: Your plate must be quite full with crew and school! Do you do anything outside?
HT: At the moment, my schedule is pretty packed…We work out every day, so there’s a lot to do. Crew helps me stay focused and with time management. I’m still adjusting to the language, and everything is still so new. I’ve never been to an English speaking country for so long before Yale.

Saturdays are mostly for partying in the evenings—everyone’s going out…I love going out with the crew guys. And then I try to sleep long on Sunday, because that’s the only day I can do that.

I like to hang out with my suitemates, and I like family dinner on Sundays because you get to talk to everyone in JE. Sometimes I like to read. (Pause) Or, at least I try to—but I am usually too tired! I also like to watch NBA games or football.

HC: Favorite basketball team? (There is a right answer, and it’s the Lakers)
HT: (Laughs) I like the Dallas Mavericks, but only because of Nowitzki—he’s German. So that’s why I’m cheering a little for them.

HC: Life seems busy for you right now—how’s your dating life?
Hubert gives me a confused look. So, I ask him “have you been in love?”
HT:
(Smiles) Have I been in love? I’ve been in a relationship back home. Am I still in love? No. (Pauses) At the moment, I’m single…I’m not especially looking for anything at the moment. I’m open-minded, let’s say.

HC: What are the most attractive qualities in a girl?
HT:
I like relaxed, open-minded, humorous girls. I think the girl has to be smart…someone I have an easy time talking to. I want not just small talk, but something more serious… and shared values. I actually don’t have many [physical] preferences, like being blonde or tall.

HC: Describe a great date.
HT:
Definitely not the movies, because you just watch it and you can’t talk to them. I’d like to talk to them. (Shrugs) So, going out to eat ice cream or something. (Pauses) Maybe this sounds weird…East Rock is pretty cool, maybe go on a walk on a nice day…I like froyo too. (Pauses) …What can you do here if you want to go out on a date?

…to which I suggest Chocopologie or getting coffee.

… Oh I see, I should try that out.

HC: What’s your go-to move when trying to win a girl over?
HT: Depends on the situation. If it’s at a party, everyone is just having fun, so it’s easy to start a conversation and stay in touch. That’s how I’d start if there’s a girl I’m interested in. There’s no special way.

HC: What’s your advice to girls?
HT: (Pauses) Girls should do what they want. It’s college—it’s all about having fun. Just do what you want to do!

HC: Favorite moments at Yale?
HT:
(Smiles) There’s a ton, actually. Halloween was pretty cool. I was a Teletubbie. (Laughs) It was a little uncomfortable because the costume was ridiculous and was way too short on me. But I had fun!

Then, Thanksgiving was pretty cool…all the freshmen [on the team] went to San Diego. I liked it. (Smirks) It was pretty funny to experience Black Friday; we went to Wal Mart just for the experience. There was a special area that opened at 10PM, and I got there early to see all the people running in!

HC: Did you end up getting anything?
HT: No, but it was funny to watch people. And on Wednesday we went to Best Buy, and there were already people camping out. I think it’s ridiculous! I would spend time with my family or my friends, not camping for 2 days in front of Best Buy.

HC: All in all, how do you feel about Yale life after one semester?
HT:
I’m pretty happy at Yale. I am really happy and grateful to be here. I think it’s the best choice I’ve made in my life.

How has your experience been as a freshman at Conn thus far? Any particularly memorable moments you want to share with us?
I love Conn and all of the people I have met so far. There are just too many memorable moments, but if I had to choose, I would have to say selling the club soccer naked calendars during Harvestfest was a great time.

What activities are you involved with on campus?
I’m a part of the indoor and outdoor track team and I play club soccer. I am also part of Yalla Bina, the Arabic club on campus.

Describe yourself in three words: Passionate, funny, and Bosnian.

If you really wanted to impress a lady, where would you take her?
My ideal date would be nice and relaxed. First we would take a stroll around a local park or the arboretum engaging in conversation, telling jokes and just getting to know each other. After, we would go to a movie of her choosing. Then we could grab dinner and continue our conversation, commenting on what we thought of the movie. Things would just be laid back and casual.

What is your most embarrassing moment?
This one time my cousin and I were talking about this attractive girl in Bosnian while she was sitting next to us. What we didn’t realize, until it was too late, was that she was Bosnian too.

What’s your best pick up line?
Do you have any Bosnian in you? Would you like some?

Favorite TV show: Friends/Sportscenter
Favorite food: Cevape (Bosnian dish)

Campus Involvements: RA, Peer Advisor, Service-Learning, First-Year Seminar, Honors Council

How many years were you an RA for and what made you want to be an RA?
I had the privilege of being a freshman RA for two years. Getting involved in RHA was what initially sparked my interest in the RA position (as President of my Hall Council, I worked alongside Res Life in helping build community in the residence halls and creating opportunities for residents to socialize and learn through floor programs). However, what really made me want to be an RA was the opportunity to help other students transition to college. In a way, being an RA was therapeutic for me since I could “be there” for my residents—challenging and encouraging them to open up, to feel, to learn, and to grow as people—in a way that I wish I had “[been] there” for myself freshmen year. I made it my mission to (gently) push my residents outside of their individual comfort zones, and not make the same mistakes I did on my journey into adulthood, or at least, help them learn from these mistakes when they inevitably happened.

What do you see yourself doing five years from now?
Whether I believe it or not (FYI: I don’t), I find peace of mind “know[ing] the average person changes careers seven times in his/her lifetime”. I’d like to think whoever first made this claim did not intend for it to be interpreted literally, but rather sought to ease the burden placed on us by society to know what we want to do (career-wise) for the rest of our lives by the time we’re 25. Looking ahead, only one thing’s for certain: change. Who I am now is vastly different from who I was five years ago in the same way who I will be in five years is vastly different from who I am now. My priorities, my interests, and my skills will all evolve as I progress further and further into my career(s), so rather than answer the stated question, how about I just get to the point and admit that I don’t know.

If you could give advice about ANY aspect of college life, what would you say?
Be gentle with yourself. It’s rare to see on the Bentley campus, but the truth is everyone struggles, and you only make it worse for yourself—and everyone else—when you pretend to be okay and you’re not. Trust me, I would know; it was the most important lesson I learned here.

What do you miss most about your Bentley undergraduate career?
That some of the most important people in my life were all within walking distance.

We searched high and low for this week’s Campus Cutie and he rose to the occasion. Keynon Hawkins is a modern campus cutie who’s funny, outgoing and intelligent. But don’t let the silliness fool you, when’s it’s time to get down to business Keynon makes sure he puts his game face on. What else would you expect from a future corporate lawyer?

When talking about a difficult event he was trying to organize, he said that he was down for the challenge. See how he reacted to taking the challenge of our campus cutie survey.

Name: Keynon Hawkins
Hometown: Philadelphia Pa
Year: Sophomore
Major:  Economics Pre-Law
Relationship status: Happily Single
Zodiac Sign: Team Gemini All day Baby!

On-Campus Activities:
Proud member of Kappa Sigma fraternity, Vice-president of the residence hall counsel for Wallwork Hall, Public Relations Chair for the Inter-Fraternity Council

What would be your ideal first date:
I am a firm believer in the notion that people can have a fun and romantic time without spending too much money. Some of the best dates I had were simply just walking around L.O.V.E Park and around downtown Philadelphia, talking and getting to know the person I’m with.

What would be a dealmaker in a relationship:
If you’re a bit quirky, nerdy, and intelligent then you would definitely have my full attention. I think people are most beautiful if they are themselves and do not try too hard to make themselves seem attractive or appealing.

And a deal breaker:
Being too self-centered or overconfident! If a majority of your time is spent looking in the mirror, taking pictures of yourself, or constantly talking about yourself then you can just strut right on by me.

Celebrity Crushes:
Zoe Saldana, Rihanna, and Helena Bonham Carter (I have a strong admiration for acting abilities)

If you were on a deserted island, which three things would you have to have with you:
Assuming that that the island is tropical, food and water should already be in abundance in which case I’ll need a machete (For scavenging food and wood and also for defensive reasons) a first aid kit in case of an emergency and a satellite radio so I can make calls for help and broadcast distress signals.

If you won the lottery, what would you do:
I would first use a portion of the money to make sure I put my mom and my immediate family up somewhere nice and comfortable. Then I’ll use the rest of the money to continue my education.

Any Hobbies:
Well I’m a huge game nerd! I’ve been playing video games since about the age of 3! I am also somewhat of a movie freak I can watch almost any movie as long as I don’t find it asinine.

Ideal Date: Dinner (no movies) on a pier and with a beach house

What do you look for in a girl?
Someone who is personable, open to trying things, and loves sushi. Then being able to make a connection to get to know them, because meeting them is the hard part but then you have to try and see if you’re compatible, and compatible is when we don’t have everything in common, because having differences makes it interesting, and we can carry on a conversation.

Fun Fact: I lived in Hamburg, Germany for a month and I speak German.

Favorite CMU Moment: When Guster performed on the cut and they had fireworks going during the last song and making it to the finals of the club hockey tournament.

This week’s campus cutie, Robby, is a Saybrook sophomore on the swim team and a member of SAE. Last week, when Robby and I met up for the Campus Cutie interview, we both decided on froyo over coffee (despite the bone-chilling temperature outside). The self-proclaimed “candy fiend” and I went crazy with the toppings and then sat down for our interview.

Name: Robby Harder
Year: 2015
Hometown: Redding
Major: Economics
College: Saybrook (“The best college!”)

Favorite late night snack: Something sour, like Sour Patch Kids.

Guilty Pleasure: I’m not really guilty about anything. I’m a candy fiend, but I don’t feel guilty about that at all!

Favorite TV Show: 30 Rock and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I think I’ve seen every episode of 30 Rock. I was obsessed with it this summer. Tina Fey is the best!

Nicknames: I don’t really have any except Robby
(His real name is Robert)

Interesting fact: I lived in London for two years.

What actor would play you in a movie about your life?
Good question…Matt Damon!

Your family is moving to Australia, what are you most excited about when you get there?
I’m trying to work there this summer, and Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman live in the penthouse of the apartment building where my parents live, so I’m hoping I’ll run into them.

What do you want to do after you graduate?
Something with banking– equity stuff– but I’m not really sure where.

What’s the best thing about being on the swim team at Yale?
Definitely not morning practice, having a close bond with all the other guys who do the same things as you.

What do you do when you’re not swimming or in class?
Sleep a decent amount, and normally just hang out with SAE, at the swim house or with people in Saybrook.

Last year you competed in the Ivy League Championships with your team, and you did really well in your races- what was the best part of that competition?
The freshman all did really well (Class of 2015), we set a bunch of records and got high places. It was great for transitioning and building the team.

What weird traditions do you have on the swim team?
This isn’t a tradition, but the other day twenty of us got stuck in the elevator of Payne Whitney. We were stuck in the basement for like ten minutes and then when the police finally came and opened the elevator doors, twenty guys in speedos came out., it was definitely weird.

What’s your favorite thing about being in SAE?
It’s great to have a big group of friends. Everyone has different interests, but they all are connected by SAE. Because everyone is involved in something different, it allows you to branch out.

Funniest pick up line at a party:
I don’t use pick up lines, but if I did I would probably just change a classic to make it unexpected. I’d ask something like, “how much does a polar bear weigh?”…and then just go the opposite way with the joke… I can’t remember the last time I used a pick up line though.

And finally, Yale girls are the best because…
They all have something about them– there is something cool about every girl at Yale. Everyone has a reason for being here, something that makes them unique and special, everyone has substance.

Interests: Politics, Economics, and Sports

Most embarrassing moment: When I was 35 minutes late to my first class at Purdue.

What is the perfect date for you?
Honestly, as long as the girl can hold an intelligent conversation I do not necessarily care where we go out.

Biggest pet peeve: When people do not wash their hands.

Favorite candy: Almond Joy and Reese’s.

Weirdest thing about you: I watch the news probably more than a retired person.

Most memorable moment: The moment I found out I was accepted to my dream school, Purdue.

Life motto: “We are never defeated unless we give up on God.” – Ronald Reagan.

Role model: I look up to different people for different things. My role models are my family, Jesus, Ronald Reagan, and George Washington.

Favorite clothing brand: Brooks Brothers, a classic American merchant.

Shoes you can’t live without: Brown bucks.

Favorite movie: Star Wars

Most hated chick flick you’ve ever been forced to watch: the movie Titanic just irritates me.

Most awkward moment on a date: When you find out the girl is a hard-core liberal.

What is your ultimate life goal?
To be the best husband, father, son, brother and businessman I can be. In addition, when the time is right, I plan on running for President of the United States of America.

What is your favorite quality in a girl?
My favorite quality is hard to describe. I love who are low key, super chill, not high maintenance and can hang around the guys.

What is something a girl would be surprised to know about you?
I may not look like it, but I’m a softie on the inside.

If you could have one super power, what would it be?
I would want a power where I can be transported anywhere I want to be in a second. (I have no patience.)

What kind of music do you listen to?
I listen to modern rap, old school rap, alternative, country, trap and old school rock. Such as the Eagles, Tupac, Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton, Kenny Chesney, Macklemore, Wiz Khalifa, Kendrick Lamar, Biggie Smalls, NWA, Black Keys, Rise Against, Blink 182, Aerosmith, Doobie Brothers.

Why did you choose to come to UCI?
I chose UCI because the distance was convenient enough for me to feel independent. I really needed to get out of my “bubble” of a hometown.

What are your favorite TV shows?
Some of my favorite shows are Breaking Bad, Workaholics, Family Guy and Man vs. Food.

What is your favorite food?
Food from Micks Karma Bar burger and New York steak

What is your best move when trying to catch the attention of a special lady?
My best move would be approaching a girl, talk just a little, then compliment her eyes. Eyes are my favorite part of a girl, sometimes I make an excuse to leave and talk to my friends but keep eye contact with her from far away. It worked once!

Where do you think is the best place to meet a girl on campus?
Well, the worst place has to be the ARC. But the best would be the Pike booth or her sorority booth because it’s both social and fun. It’s also a lot more comfortable because it’s not just her and me; we’d be surrounded by our brothers and sisters.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In ten years, I would like to have a wife, two kids, and be the general manager for my dad’s business.

If you could trade places with anyone in the world, who would it be?
I would trade places with my cousin Brad Saarloos. He’s the head wine maker for my uncles business and has his own house in Los Olivos (a wine country near Santa Barbara). He has his career set and makes an excellent living.

Worst first date?
I’ve actually only been on about ten dates, so I don’t have an awful first one. But I guess last year I went to Cha with someone. I bought her a large drink but she just sat there, didn’t touch it, and threw it away in front of my face.

Best date experience?
The best date was at Seal Beach on the pier. We went to Ruby’s, watched the sun set, laid a blanket out, and watched the waves crash.

Pet peeves? Turn Offs?
Some of my pet peeves are loud and obnoxious girls, girls who can’t make up their mind, and “moochers” who don’t pay your back. I love eyes, so too much eye makeup is a turn off. I don’t like girls who don’t have confidence, the kind who can’t accept a compliment.

Most Memorable Moment at UCI:
My most memorable moment has to do with PIKE. I’m not allowed to say it all, but I think pledging as a whole last spring quarter was the best 8 weeks of my life.

If you could live somewhere after college, where would it be?
With my cousin at the winery in Los Olivos. It’s beautiful.

A Chicago native, Elizabeth is going into her senior year at the College of William & Mary, where she is majoring in Psychology and Literary & Cultural Studies. Last year she circumnavigated the globe and visited 12 developing nations with a study abroad program called Semester at Sea, honing her travel writing skills and chasing her dream of someday working abroad. Currently she is the Editor-in-Chief of the literary magazine Winged Nation and the Philanthropy Chair of her beloved music sorority, Nu Kappa Epsilon. When she's not writing her butt off for class or for pleasure, she can usually be found practicing harp, watching Community, or hanging out with her Phi Sigma Pi brothers.
