Why He’s a Gold Medal Hottie: If the teenage years are all about fitting in, then Connor Fields’s three World Cup podium finishes—all while he was still in high school—have made any generalizations impossible. But the rough rider doesn’t seem to mind that normal rules don’t apply to him. When asked why he wouldn’t wear goggles like the other bikers to protect himself from getting hit by debris, he said: “You don’t get hit if you’re in front.” Looks like in his mind, the race is already won. And it’s not false confidence, either: during the Olympic trials, he completed the BMX course–a replica of the one at the Olympics—in 38.203 seconds. Next time we’re running late to class, we’re catching a ride with him.
