Lose the Freshman 15: 25 Easy Ways to Burn Calories!

Hope you all had a great week collegiettes!  I love being able to see all my friends from home again!  All I want to do is my spend my time with them, but it’s still important that I make time for exercise.  Here are some easy actions you can incorporate to your daily life to burn a few extra calories here are there:

  1. Park in the farthest spot away from the store, restaurant, etc.
  2. Take the stairs
  3. Walk and talk- when you’re on the phone, pace instead of sitting down!
  4. Do things by hand- wash your car, clean the house
  5. Take the long way- no more shortcuts!
  6. Go shopping- you’ll be on your feet for a while!
  7. Stand up when you can
  8. Tap your foot
  9. Chew gum 
  10. Squat when you go to pick something up off the ground
  11. Walk, run, or ride your bike for transportation whenever you can
  12. Relax- high levels of stress can lead to weight gain!
  13. Do ab, arm, and leg exercises when watching TV (Not just during the commercials!)
  14. Be on your feet at least 10 minutes of every hour- it’s a good break from your work too!
  15. Walk the dog (or jog!)
  16. Cook!  Not only will you be burning calories from standing, slicing, and dicing, but you’ll be eating a nice healthy homecooked meal!
  17. Sing and dance to your favorite new songs (don’t be embarrassed!)
  18. Invest in a jump rope, hula hoop, and step to stay active while you watch TV
  19. Garden and weed!
  20. Practice the piano or another musical instrument if you know how!
  21. March in place or do high knees in place
  22. At the grocery store- take a basket if you can!
  23. At the airport- carry your luggage if you can instead of rolling it
  24. Jump!
  25. Laugh!
