Lose the Freshman 15: Sexercise

Hello again, collegiettes! I’m going to start by saying that I considered not addressing this topic but hey, carpe diem. (My mom’s response to me telling her about this post was “You can’t just write about shopping at the farmer’s market or something?” Next time, mom. Next time.)

Yesterday as I checked my daily carrot email from DietBet while in class, I noticed one comment in particular from my fellow blogger, Nicole E. “Not that this applies to me or anything but does sex count as a workout?” A) Nicole is hilarious if y’all haven’t already noticed in her blogs. B) Of course sex counts as a workout! Now I’m not saying that you should forego your daily trip to the gym (sexual activity doesn’t burn THAT many calories), but including a little cardio with your own personal workout buddy is just the icing on the cake you’re probably not eating. Your sexual health and safety come first and foremost, might I add, but if you are sexually active – in no way suggestive of my own life – it’s nice to remember you’re burning calories in the process!

Like a regular workout (the HIIT exercises on the SELF Drop 10 plan, for example!), the key to calorie burning while sexually active is to mix it up: utilize different positions and different intensities. Do you challenge yourself in the gym? Then challenge yourself in the bedroom! Don’t be afraid to try new things.  And let’s not forget that foreplay (i.e., a makeout sesh that’ll give even Ryan Gosling a run for his money) totally counts!

As I’ve mentioned before, my “Lose the Freshman 15” journey is about being the best that I can be aside from the numbers I lose. And that includes being completely confident with myself and my body. I promise your partner won’t be concerned with the few extra pounds you’re working so diligently to lose — he or she is happy to just be with you! I’m all for being gutsy, ladies, so if kissing a cute guy also means I’m burning a few calories in the process then let me at him! (I don’t recommend kissing a cute guy for the sole purpose of burning a few calories, though… not worth it!)
