Lose the Freshman 15: Temptation, Temptation Everywhere

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

dailylog4The other day I realized I needed to unsubscribe from the Chick-Fila texting service.

Two for one handspun milkshakes? Um…Yes and Yum! Last week, I would have been all over that. My boyfriend and I always love a good deal. But the new Nikki? I’m determined not to touch a milkshake with a ten-foot poll.

I never realized how much temptation there is in a college town where fast food is easy and parties are rampant. The second I open my apartment door each and every day, I am attacked by the smell of pizza. I live right next to a pizza parlor and their delivery cars are always in plain sight. Next to the pizza place is my favorite tavern which is not only good for their drinks, but their chili cheese fries are seriously one of the best things I’ve ever tasted in my life.

But alas, me and my ten-foot poll are staying clear from both of them. Even though these temptations are practically my neighbors and also among the places I used to frequent, I really am committed to sticking with SELF’s Jump Start Diet and finally taking care of myself.

Still, this is the first weekend on the diet, and it won’t be without its challenges. Saturday night I’ll be attendingPicture14 an 80s dance party where food and drinks will be served. Alcohol isn’t forbidden on the Jump Start Diet, but Jillian Michaels recommends only drinking two glasses of wine a week—maximum. I don’t think it’ll be a problem though because I’ve never been one to need alcohol to have a good time. Plus, the dance party will be awesome cardio!

Sunday, I’ll be hit with a double whammy. My boyfriend’s and my favorite pizza buffet is closing down for good. We used to eat there every week when we first started dating three years ago to the point where the people who worked there joked that they’d be the ones catering our wedding. I promised him I’d go with him for one last good bye, but there won’t be much for me to eat that is acceptable on the diet AND with it being a buffet, temptation will be through the roof.

As if that won’t be enough, I’m attending a potluck that day as well. I’m still searching for healthy recipes to bring, so if you have any ideas, please let me know! I’d love to hear them.

Even though this week will have its challenges, I’ve decided that no matter what, I’m going to do my best to live normally and in moderation. I won’t nix the finer things in life. After all, potlucks are part of the joy of social gatherings. But I don’t want to eat my weight in pizza either. It’ll be a true test of willpower this weekend, but I have a feeling it’ll be one of those humps that once I’m over it, the rest will be easy. But don’t worry, regardless of how my willpower does, I’ll let you know how it goes.

So here’s to living life to the fullest without filling up on fatty foods and alcohol! Wish me luck!
