Watches. The new trend. Back in the day, it was lame for anyone to have a watch on their wrist. If you needed to know the time, you obviously just had to check your phone.
First came the Fitbit in 2011. Knowing your step count for the day was a top priority. Fitbits began super simple, just a simple band with a few dots that estimated one’s activity for the day. Quickly, Fitbits started evolving and becoming more high tech. From a time display to syncing with one’s phone to heart rate monitors, Fitbits began to escalate.
In 2015, Apple released their combat against the Fitbit craze: the Apple Watch. The Apple Watch was able to sync to one’s iPhone and receive calls, texts, load pictures and much more.
Since their releases, there have been multiple devices and updates released for both products. So, what’s the difference?
Fitbits and Apple Watches both can sync to your phone – if you have an iPhone that is. If you have a Samsung, Google or Android phone, other devices are available similar to Apple Watches, but Fitbits are still an option for you.
Fitbits use an application that you can download that records all of your data for the day. Apple Watches use the Activity App that comes preloaded on your Apple device.
Both devices have step counters, heart rate monitors and a clock face. Certain models of the Fitbit have similar features of the Apple Watch including an alarm feature, received text messages, music control and workout features.
The Apple Watch functions compared to the simpler Fitbits are more complex and functional. With the ability to reply to text messages, answer incoming calls and access onscreen apps, the Apple Watch has more onscreen functions than Fitbit’s highest functioning device.
The Fitbit is more geared towards health data by reading steps, stairs climbed, heart rate and workout times. Even though the Fitbit is not a fancy gadget like an Apple Watch, each device has its benefits. Most Fitbit models are substantially cheaper than their Apple Watch counterparts; however, Fitbit has released a number of new additions to the Fitbit family priced at the level of an Apple Watch.
The Apple Watch has multiple functions that can be synced with one’s iPhone like setting reminders, calendar events, messages, calls, photo display, music control, Apple Pay and navigation. The newest version of the Apple Watch Series 2 is even waterproof. The Apple Watch is the more compatible for those with iPhone who use these features regularly.
The newest Fitbit in 2017 offers on-screen applications like the weather; however, the Apple Watch remains to triumph the function game.
Personally, I have owned both devices, a Fitbit Charge HR 2 and an Apple Watch Series 2. Although I loved my Fitbit, I choose my Apple Watch daily. I enjoy syncing my calendar, replying to text messages, setting reminders and answering calls all at a wrist access. Before I got my Apple Watch, I loved my Fitbit. I used it daily, keeping up with my steps and activity level for the day. I simply prefer the Apple Watch because of the additional features.
I would highly recommend both devices, but more so the Apple Watch for you iPhone users out there.
